You are not from here. You've spent the vast majority of your life in another plane of existence, beyond the Material. However, you were recently tasked with being an emissary of your home plane, whether your mission was Diplomatic or otherwise. As of right now, however, you are AWOL. Something- or someone- made your mission either impossible to complete or convinced you to stay.
Choose a plane of existence to be your origin and work with your DM to determine the cause of your Absence. Why did you decide to leave? And how does it tie into your current adventure? Maybe you abandoned your home plane because you found the Material plane to be a more hospitable place, or perhaps you found someone you couldn't live without. What was your life like back on your home plane, and how do you feel about this one? Do you yearn to return home, or do you like the Material Plane?

Depending on the plane you are from and inherent characteristics, people may have interesting reactions to your presence. A fiendish origin may make folks uneasy, shifting around in their chairs or sometimes showing outright hostility. Meanwhile, if you originate from an angelic plane, you are more likely to be taken as a powerful and just individual, making certain Acolytes bow down to you or think of you as a sign from their god. It all depends on context, after all.
Suggested Characteristics
Planar Emissaries are often seen in certain ways, depending on the environment they were raised. Some find the attention they get understandable, while others may try to mitigate its effect. Some don't mind the attention, some revel in it. This can have massive effects on who they are after coming to the Material Plane.
