Watcher Agent Image

You were raised or conscripted into the Order of the Watchers, a clandestine organization devoted to identifying, containing, and eliminating extraplanar threats. Your training was ruthless, and your body and soul became a living weapon. Whether still loyal to the Order or now working independently, you remain vigilant for breaches in reality—and the nightmares that follow.

Skill Proficiencies: Choose two of the following: Arcana, Insight, Investigation, Nature, Perception, Stealth, or Survival.
Tool Proficiencies: Choose one tool from the following: Alchemist's Supplies, Cartographer's Tools, Disguise Kit, Herbalism Kit, or Poisoner's Kit.
Languages: Choose one language of your choice.
Equipment:

A Watcher’s insignia, an artisan's tool of your choice, a magnifying glass, a set of traveler's clothes, one trinket from a past hunt, and a belt pouch containing 10 gp.

Watcher Role

Every Watcher is shaped for a specific purpose within the Order. These specialties define how you were trained and what kind of missions you were most often assigned to. Your role may still influence how you operate in the field or what burdens you carry.

d6 Watcher Role
1 Field Agent (combat-focused operations)
2 Arcane Analyst (studies breaches and magical phenomena)
3 Interrogator (extracts intel from cultists or entities)
4 Scout Operative (monitors wild zones and high-risk regions)
5 Rift Technician (specialist in sealing and manipulating planar openings)
6 Handler (coordinator for teams and logistics)

Feature: Operative of the Order

You have the training, protocols, and credentials to access hidden information networks maintained by the Order of the Watchers. In any settlement with a magical or extraplanar presence, you can typically find a contact or hidden resource such as a cache, encoded ledger, or dead drop. These contacts can offer insight into recent planar disturbances, identify threats, or provide a temporary safe harbor.

Additionally, you can perform minor tasks on behalf of the Order to maintain your cover or reputation, such as delivering messages, evaluating arcane anomalies, or interrogating possible cultists.

Spell List

If you have the Spellcasting or Pact Magic feature, the spells on the Watcher Spell List are added to the spell list of one spellcasting class of your choice.

Spell Level Spells
Cantrip light, message
1st detect evil and good, protection from evil and good
2nd pass without trace, see invisibility
3rd counterspell, dispel magic, nondetection
4th arcane eye, banishment
5th legend lore, wall of force

Your conditioning and proximity to the unknowable shape your magic. Its manifestations are clinical, calculated, and tinged with planar residue. Spells often take on a sterile or otherworldly aesthetic—arcane eye may appear as a floating, disembodied lens surrounded by faint glyphs; banishment might be accompanied by a sudden shift in air pressure, static, or a keening whistle only planar entities can hear. Even something as simple as message might come through as a whisper trailing across threads of silvery tethered light. You have been forged to interfere with the unnatural; your magic is the scalpel.
