V'lirn: Forest Born Image

The V'lirn are an intense people who believe in deep ties that keep their pride together. They follow ancient rituals for almost everything they do, the weaving of storytelling and song into their daily lives has kept their traditions and faiths strong as the sands of time have tried to strip away their memories of the past. They know that this is not the land their people originally hailed from, they were tasked with finding new forests and building new prides, their strength was challenged and they met this with grace.  Settled into the northern edge of the Ezul Forest and the Ruven Forest even further north they have thrived as hunters and built out great towns high in the trees.

This is where you spent your time as a kit, learning the skills and responsibilities expected of you. You passed your coming-of-age challenge and earned yourself a name and with that name the rights of an adult. The strong and proud V'lirn have acknowledged you or perhaps they have shunned you for not fitting their mold, but your path starts here:

Skill Proficiencies:

Nature & Choose 1: Acrobatics, Athletics, History, Survival

Languages:

Choose one Language: Elvish, Primordial, Sylvan, V'lirn, V'lirn Tail

Equipment:

Choice of Explorer's Pack or Scholar's Pack, Dheris "blessed" Lantern Oil (flask) (5), a token of your best hunt, set of Clothes, Common, and a pouch containing 5 gp

Feature: Superstition

Coincidence, tapped into folk magic, or belief shapes reality, the reason doesn't matter in the end, and the silly superstitious thing you did changed the fate around you.

Once per game session, you may call upon these fickle forces real or imagined to change your fate. The GM decides what form this intervention takes and when it will trigger. Beware, the threads of fate are interwoven and do not just affect you but your allies and enemies too.

Suggested Characteristics
d8 Personality Trait
1 Arrogant: I am proud of all I have accomplished. I carry my trophies with me so that all can see how talented I am. Should they ask (or look at them) I will regal them with the tales of my greatest deeds until the sun rises.
2 Gregarious: Everyone is a friend I have yet to make. The more you avert your eyes the more I wish to swish my tail against you until I have earned your companionship. Why are you sneezing?
3 Aloof: I do not wish to be touched, bothered, or even looked at, especially if I am trying to relax. If I want something I will take it. I don't require anyone's help.
4 Skittish: My tails puff at every loud noise. I fidget, pace, and wide-eye check in case there is anything to surprise me. I hate to be caught off guard but it always happens. I am extra superstitious as my little rituals help to keep me safe.
5 Debonair: I am savvy, handsome, and well-mannered. As I cross the room I can tell everyone can see the shine of my perfectly groomed coat. I am a true gentleman or lady in any circle.
6 Scheming: My eyes are ever-searching as I plot my next move. My companions often confuse my planning for ill-intentioned behaviors. I just wanted to know what you're eating and maybe what would happen if I tripped that fellow over there?
7 Gullible: I often believe things that I shouldn't. People tell me outlandish things but I have no reason not to believe them. A lot of what I am experiencing is new to me so it is only right to rely on people who have more experience, isn't it?
8 Quirky: Shoes are for your head. My favorite color is burple. This plant is very tasty but it makes me feel a little funny. Can I have some more? Why shouldn't I lay on the middle of this table while you're writing? I'm helping.
d6 Ideal
1 Master Hunter: I am going to find the largest and most challenging prey I can and prove my ability as a hunter. (Neutral)
2 Lore Keeper: I have learned the stories of our people but there are many things I do not yet know. I wish to find more knowledge and stories to add to my understanding of the world. (Lawful)
3 Herbalist: I have an interest in medicines, poisons, and foods that come from plants. I also want to know how to keep important plants safe from overuse while making the best of them for myself. (Neutral)
4 Roving: I feel constrained by the boundaries of my village. I am going to wander the world for a while sewing my oats, experiencing new things, and learning who I am as a V'lirn. (Chaotic)
5 Merchant: There are many things that the V'lirn have to offer and I am going to build relationships with those outside by the power of coin. I am going to bring what we have and show the world I should not be overlooked. (Neutral)
6 Recovery: There are times when our villages or roving citizens have been attacked and gone missing. I will either find them and bring them home or I will recover what I can so their families can lay them to rest. (Good)
d6 Bond
1 A member of my pride was taken/killed. I must travel to where they are/were to free them or recover what I can of their remains so they do not become Aulok, the lost and wandering dead.
2 I never earned a true name. Ostracized by my people I have found my way to new lands to surround myself with others that will not treat me poorly.
3 I am not ready to settle down and make a family. I wish to explore the world and learn new things. Hunting knowledge is as important as hunting food.
4 I am going to earn the respect of the other races. By the time I am returned, I will be a hero among all people and they will know we are a race to be awed and feared.
5 I was separated from my pride. I know I should find my way back to them but there is something that is keeping me here.
6 No one should be denied the privilege of getting to meet someone as magnificent as me. I am the strongest/fastest/most handsome/sleekest/boldest/smartest V'lirn to ever grace the planet.
d6 Flaw
1 I openly treat members of other races like I would a child if they don't seem independent enough.
2 I ramble on about my exploits or the exploits of my family regardless of how many times I have told it before.
3 I have no concept of personal space. Often rubbing against other people's shoulders or sides at inappropriate times, such as while they are working or walking by.
4 I come across as stand-offish or snobby. I freely hiss or show disdain at people or things that I dislike or surprise me.
5 My feline musk is very strong. I am quite proud of my scent but others can find it off-putting and it negatively affects my attempts to deal with beasts of burden or prey animals. However, it also helps to keep vermin out of camp.
6 Deception or manipulation, such as half-truths or white lies, are all the same to me. I am blunt to a fault and become easily offended or act betrayed if someone isn't honest with me.
