You were not born. You were emerged.
Something ancient cracked open the veil, and through that fracture, you stepped — not screaming, not weeping, but aware. You were not granted life by chance or flesh; you were touched, or perhaps claimed, by Death itself. Whether you are a weapon, a mistake, a vessel, or an answer is a matter of prophecy. Or madness.
You are Deathborne — flesh-formed in the shadow between realms, unanchored from the natural rhythm of mortal life. Those around you feel it: a quiet stillness, a whisper in their spine, the flicker of candlelight that moves against the wind when you pass.

Feat: Death's Fortitude
Your soul has brushed the threshold and returned. What remains is no longer merely mortal. The touch of Death has imprinted itself upon your flesh, bone, and spirit. Whether by divine design or cosmic accident, you are now something more — a vessel half-living, half-beyond. Your body has adapted to bear the weight of the grave and the resilience of stillness.
-
Your hit point maximum increases by an amount equal to twice your level when you gain this feat.
-
Whenever you gain a level thereafter, your hit point maximum increases by an additional 2 hit points.
In addition, creatures that attempt to discern your living nature — through magic such as detect life, scrying, or divine sense — always sense a strange duality. You register as alive and dead simultaneously, or as something caught in-between.
You do not feel cold as others do.
You do not sleep as others do.
You do not bleed as others do — only when you will it.“Death marked me and left me walking. Now, I carry its silence in my marrow.”

- Languages: Celestial and Primordial
Feature: Deathless Denial
You are the pause between heartbeat and silence. You are the "not yet."
-
When you are reduced to 0 HP, you may roll a d6. On a 5 or 6, you drop to 1 HP instead.
- When another creature within 10 ft would drop to 0 HP, you may instead take the damage in their place, as your soul lashes outward to anchor theirs.
-
This can occur once per long rest, and every time it succeeds, a withered flower blooms nearby.
Feature: Death’s Presence
Rumors follow you. Ghosts whisper your name to the living. Some call you a saint. Others, an omen.
- When you enter a settlement for the first time, roll a d6:
1–2: People avoid you in fear.
3–4: A small cultist or reverent group treats you like a divine emissary.
5: Someone mistakes you for a literal angel or demon.
6: An old person weeps in recognition — but cannot say why.
Sleep does not restore you; instead, you enter a death-like stillness each night. Doing so for 4 hours grants the affects of a Long Rest. During those hours, you are in a dead sleep, as if like a corpse.
“For Death does not sleep, it always stirs,”
