The Pilgrim of Lost Hope

You were a respected member of a thriving religious community, known for your unwavering faith and dedication to healing the sick and comforting the afflicted. However, a devastating plague swept through your community, leaving many dead and the survivors broken and despairing. Your deity, The Dawnfather, who was once a beacon of hope, seems to have abandoned you, your genuflecting and continual prayers going unheeded and unheard, offering no comfort or solace.

Driven by a desperate need to restore your faith and find a way to heal your broken community, you embark on a pilgrimage to a sacred site rumoured to hold the key to unlocking forgotten divine powers. You seek a sign, a miracle, anything to prove that The Dawnfather has not forsaken you and that hope is not lost

Your unwavering faith grants you a small measure of divine power. You can channel this power to perform minor miracle or to bolster your own resolve.

Variant Follower of the Dawnfather: Guardian Cleric

Guardian Clerics are the stalwart defenders of the faithful, utilising their divine power to shield allies and disrupt enemies. They are masters of battlefield control, using abilities and spells to protect their comrades and deny enemies advantageous positions.

Key Features:

Divine Ward: As a bonus action on your turn, you can grant one willing creature within 30 feet of you resistance to one damage type until the start of your next turn. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of once). You regain all expended uses of this feature when you finish a long rest.

Sacred Ground: As an action, you can create a 10-foot-radius circle centred on a point within 60 feet of you. For 1 minute, the ground within the circle becomes difficult terrain for enemy creatures. Additionally, any enemy creature that starts its turn within the circle must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw (DC equal to 8 + proficiency bonus + wisdom modifier) or be stunned until the start of its next turn. You can use this feature up to the number of times equal to your wisdom modifier (minimum of once). You regain all expended uses of this feature when you finish a long rest.

Improved Divine Strike: When you use the Attack action on your turn, you can make one additional weapon attack as part of the same action.

Variant Feature: Variant Retainer - Divine Brother/Sister

A devout Follower of The Dawnfather, they may have been a squire, a novice in The Temple of Lathendar, or a former acolyte who has witnessed firsthand the Cleric's bravery and dedication.

The Divine Brother/Sister can act as a scout or messenger, provide healing potions or other consumable items during combat (focusing on party members), assisting the Cleric in setting up the Sacred Ground ability.

If used outside of combat, the Divine Brother/Sister can handle mundane tasks like setting up camp, gathering supplies and manage the Cleric's equipment, and offer moral support to the Cleric and the rest of the party.
