You once lived in the shadows of society, surviving through crime, deceit, and stealth. But in the deeper darkness, you found something else — or it found you. Through a pact, curse, or awakening, your senses changed. Now you can see in complete darkness — even the kind conjured by magic — and your deeds are driven by forces darker than mortal law.
You’ve traded some of your earthly cunning for the gifts of the infernal or umbral realms, and your path is no longer yours alone.

Background-Specific Table Description
Roll or choose one from this table to determine how you gained your Devil’s Sight and connection to darkness:
d6 | Origin of Darkness |
---|---|
1 | You made a pact with a devil in exchange for power. |
2 | You stumbled upon a cursed relic in a heist gone wrong. |
3 | Your bloodline carries a taint of shadow or infernal ancestry. |
4 | A shadowy entity marked you in a dream that never ended. |
5 | You were imprisoned in magical darkness and emerged... changed. |
6 | You took part in a forbidden ritual you barely understood. |
Your supernatural vision lets you navigate shadows like daylight, making you a terrifying figure in the dark. You gain advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight while in dim light or darkness. Additionally, you can recognize magical darkness on sight and know whether it’s active due to a spell or natural phenomenon.
