Whether as part of your religious duties, because you are part of a guild of morticians or as punishment for some crime, you are charged with tending to the final resting place of the deceased, in preparation and in upkeep. You ensure that the dead can enjoy the afterlife free of any disturbance or possible troubles.
For quite some time, the dead were your only company. Do you long for interaction with the living or has your time among the deceased left you emotionally cold and unable to stay in crowded places for extended periods?
Do you wish to grant all those less fortunate than your previous clientele a proper burial?
Or did you leave because you could no longer stand the silence of the departed?

Due to your association with the deceased, most would prefer to avoid and ignore you. Common people who see you going about activities that are part of your work, such as transporting dead bodies or entering homes, will assume you have a right to be doing whatever you are engaged in, so long as you are not endangering them. In addition, your presence in a cemetery, graveyard, crypt, mausoleum or a church or temple attached to such, will not be questioned, so long as your actions and behavior are respectful.
While some find what you do distasteful, those who have been touched by death(soldiers, clergy, people who've lost) appreciate what you do and are inclined to trust you/believe in you and might even come to seek support in times of grievance.
