The Tayledras, also known as the HHawkbrothes, are a fascinating and magical race with a unique culture and appearance. Here is a description of the Tayledras people:

Appearance:

  • All Tayledras are born with black hair, blue eyes, and golden skin, a trait they share with their relatives, the Shin'a'in.
  • The constant exposure to the magic of their Heartstones has a profound effect on their physical appearance. Over time, their hair becomes bleached to a silvery-white, a common trait among those who live in proximity to a Heartstone.
  • Tayledras mages often wear their hair at waist-length, braiding it with various items like bells or feathers. Scouts, on the other hand, may dye their hair to camouflage themselves in the forest.

Culture and Society:

  • Magic: The Tayledras are a deeply magical people. They are often called the k'Varda, or "mage clans," because most of their population possesses some form of magical ability. They receive basic magical training to control their Gifts from a young age.
  • Heartstones: Their entire way of life revolves around the Heartstones, which are physical nodes of magic. Each Tayledras clan lives in its own secluded valley, or "Vale," protected by a magical "Veil" that keeps out predators and alerts them to intruders. The Heartstone in each Vale creates a perpetual spring-like climate.
  • Bondbirds: A defining characteristic of the Tayledras is their unique bond with large birds of prey, such as hawks, falcons, and eagles. These "Bondbirds" are more than just pets; they share a deep, telepathic connection with their Tayledras companion.
  • Longevity: Due to their constant exposure to magic, the Tayledras are longer-lived than most humans. Their mages, who frequently handle "node magic," can live to be 120 or 130 years old.
  • Duty: The Tayledras have a specific purpose: to cleanse land that was corrupted by a past magical cataclysm. They achieve this through the creation and use of Heartstones.

Feat: Bondbird's Guidance: You have a special connection with a non-combat raven or hawk that acts as your bondbird. As an action, you can have the bondbird fly to a location you can see within 120 feet. It can use its keen sight to provide a brief report on what it sees, granting you advantage on your next Perception check related to that area. The bondbird cannot be used to deliver messages or act as a familiar, and it must return to your side at the end of your turn.

Sylvan's Warden: You are attuned to the rhythm of the forest. When you are in a forest environment, you can always find enough food and fresh water for yourself and up to five others each day, provided the environment is not a barren one (such as a desert). You also instinctively know the most efficient path through the terrain, gaining a subtle sense of direction that makes you nearly impossible to get lost.

Skill Proficiencies: Perception: Their keen senses and attunement to nature make this a natural fit.

Survival: They are hunters, scouts, and live off the land.

Nature: They have a deep understanding of the natural world and its creatures.

Stealth: As scouts and hunters, moving unseen is crucial.

Choose two of these that best represent the aspect of Tayledras life you want for your character.

Tool Proficiencies: Herbalism Kit: They use herbs for medicine and other purposes.

Woodcarver's Tools: They are known for their intricate carvings, especially for their bondbirds' perches and other items.

Navigator's Tools: As scouts and travelers, they would be experts at finding their way through the wilderness.

You can select one of these.
