Inadvertent World Traveler Image

You've been transported from another world to this one, somehow.  Who knows if you can ever make it back?  The good news is that you may have some familiarity with this strange place, and the way "things work" here due to your years as a role playing gamer or avid reader on your home world.  As a result, you have a wide body of relevant knowledge on a good many topics, but you are at the same time as ignorant as a child about others.

Skill Proficiencies: Choose one of History, Religion, Nature, or Survival.  You are proficient in Insight.
Languages: You speak your native language, and Common.

World Walk

You are not from here, but maybe you belong and maybe you don't.  Consult the table for the origins of your world walk.

d10 World Walk
1 That's the last time you listen to your little sister and follow her into a wardrobe.
2 What the Hell was in that blue pill?
3 You got scared and ran. When you passed between those two power poles, you felt a shock and here you are.
4 You found that old book in the attic, but there's no way that lame incantation should have worked.
5 All that fantasy book reading is paying off. The wizard that appeared in your kitchen; he wasn't lying ...
6 You felt a sharp pain in the back of your head, and you blacked out, only to awake here.
7 Your dungeon master, that evil son-of-a-*****, brought you here somehow. "You awake on a hilltop ..." he said, and you did.
8 It was the weirdest encounter. You were at the coffee shop, and that beautiful girl said "would you like to come back to my place?" When you said, "yes," you awoke here.
9 Aunt Agatha was always weird, but when she said she was going to hex you, you thought she was joking ...
10 The bad men came, and this time it wasn't just in your dream. You felt a yank from far away, and let yourself be pulled ...

Feature: 21st Century Knowledgebase

You know a lot of things, sometimes without even realizing it.  This is reflected in your proficiency in the Insight skill, and you also have Advantage in any skill check where your 21st Century knowledge may prove useful whether or not you are proficient.  "Wait a second, guys!  I saw this in a movie once ...!"  Other people may be fascinated by your bizarre and strange knowledge on a number of different topics and react favorably to you, even if they don't fully understand your references.  "Don't even try it, man ... you only get three spell slots per short rest ..."

By studying a person, creature or item for 1 minute, you can make a Insight check to recall some relevant bit of information about it.  For example, suddenly remembering a harrowing D&D session, you cry out "Wait, bro!  Don't put that bag of holding in your Handy Haversack!  You'll kill us all!"

Suggested Characteristics

Your motivations are not the same as the natural dwellers of this realm.

Variant Inadvertent World Traveler: Planar Outcast

You're from another world, and whether intentionally or not - you left your home world.  You may be involuntarily exiled to this world, or maybe you are fugitive from justice in your world of origin.  Regardless of how you came to be here, you must adapt or die.

Variant Feature: Alien Knowledge

You know a great deal about how to use, create, or control technology decidedly different from the way things work here.  Magic may be foreign to you, but energy manifests itself in many ways depending on the laws that govern this world.  When you encounter any item, trap, spell or must identify any creature, you may make a Insight check to decipher or identify it.  You make attempt the same check as a bonus action to anticipate the actions of any creature or person you encounter with a DC of 8 + the CR or level of the creature or person.  If your skill check is successful, you make take your action as a Reaction after the creature or person has acted, or take your action before them as you choose.  "Run! It's going to spew venom ... !"
