(Do not take this background if you have chosen a full caster class.)

You have always had a fascination with magic, even if you have almost no skill with it of your own.  You are intrigued by the enchanting process, especially, and how just a few simple glyphs etched into the blade of a sword can make it magical.  So, you apprenticed with a maker in the shop where you began by sweeping the floors and cleaning the workspaces.  You've gotten familiar with all the tools of the trade and even recognize some of the skills needed to perform the enchantments.  Maybe one day, you might be one of the greatest enchanters of the land.

Feature: The Spark of Magic

You learn how to invest a spark of magic into mundane objects. To use this ability, you must have thieves’ tools or artisan’s tools in hand.  You then touch a tiny nonmagical object (baseball sized or smaller) in a ritual-like ceremony, you can give it one of the following magical properties of your choice:

  • The object sheds bright light in a 5-foot radius and dim light for an additional 5 feet.
  • Whenever tapped by a creature, the object emits a recorded message that can be heard up to 10 feet away. You "record" the message when you bestow this property on the object, and the recording can be no more than 6 seconds long.

This object will continue to function in this way until it is subjected to Dispel Magic or similar magics or effects.  You can only have three of these created objects at a time.
