Goblin Tinkerer Image

Raised among the Madcap clan’s reckless inventors, you grew up surrounded by clattering gears, smoking gadgets, and the smell of singed hair. You have a knack for cobbling together strange devices from scraps, though they rarely work as intended. To you, chaos isn’t failure — it’s proof the thing did something. Whether you’re fixing crossbows, making fireworks, or accidentally blowing up a stew pot, your tinkering is as unpredictable as your wild magic.

Skill Proficiencies: Arcana, Sleight of Hand
Tool Proficiencies: Tinker’s Tools, Alchemist’s Supplies
Equipment: A pouch of mismatched gears and springs, a half-finished “device” that rattles ominously, a set of tinkerer’s tools, a goblin-made trinket from the Madcap clan, and a pouch containing 10 gp in odd foreign coins and shiny washers.

Feature: Chaotic Contraptions

You can cobble together small, bizarre inventions out of scraps. Once per long rest, you may spend 10 minutes building a contraption. Roll a d6 to determine the effect when you (or someone else) first activates it (usually by shaking, pulling, or throwing it):

  1. Kaboom! – Explodes in a harmless puff of smoke, glitter, or sparks. Nearby creatures jump, sneeze, or cough.
  2. Fizzlepop – Produces a loud popping or whistling sound, drawing attention within 100 feet.
  3. Whizbang – Shoots off like a firework, harmlessly bouncing around before burning out.
  4. Goblin Luck – Something useful happens unexpectedly (GM’s choice, like lighting a fire, distracting a guard, or fixing a jammed crossbow).
  5. Wild Surge Echo – Roll on the Wild Magic Surge table. The effect is minor, cosmetic, and short-lived.
  6. Oops… – The device backfires comically on you (soot on face, hair standing on end, trousers smoking). No real harm, just embarrassment.

  • Ideal: Chaos. The world’s too quiet; it needs more noise and sparks!
  • Bond: I carry a piece of my Madcap clan’s tinkering heritage, even if they disowned me.
  • Flaw: I’d rather make something explode than admit I don’t know how it works.
