Entangled One Image

You were shaped by the quiet wisdom beneath the forest floor. The mycelial web taught you to listen, to move unseen, and to prune what endangers the whole. Cloaked in darkness with psychedelic spores that lace your breath, you walk as beauty and shadow. An instrument of balance who whispers through roots and answers when the wild calls for a careful hand.

Origins:

  • Ward of the Wood — abandoned but adopted by the fungal web
  • Oath of Pruning — sworn to remove threats to the cycle
  • Exiled Acolyte — left a circle/order for being “too zealous"
  • Cordyceps Dream — guided by recurring mycelial visions
  • Debt to the Understory — you owe the roots a life repaid

Ability Scores: Dexterity and Wisdom are the hallmarks of an Entangled One. Dexterity grants the silence and precision of a predator in the dark, while Wisdom attunes you to the whispers of the mycelial web and the hidden truths of the natural world. Constitution reflects the resilience of fungi that thrive in decay, and Charisma represents the allure and veiled grace with which many Shadows mask their predatory nature.
Feat: Fey Touched

  • Increase your Wisdom or Charisma score by 1, to a maximum of 20
  • You learn the Misty Step spell and the Charm Person spell
  • You can cast each of these spells once without expending a spell slot, and you regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest
  • You can also cast these spells using any spell slots you have of the appropriate level
  • The spellcasting ability for these spells is the ability you increased with this feat (Wisdom or Charisma)
Skill Proficiencies: Choose two from the following list that reflect your training as an Entangled One:

  • Stealth: the silence of a predator, footsteps absorbed by the web beneath
  • Nature: deep knowledge of fungi, roots, and ecosystems
  • Survival: the instinct to track prey and thrive in wild places
  • Insight: reading people as if they were threads in the web
  • Perception: sensing subtle vibrations, whispers, or hidden movement
Tool Proficiencies: Tool Proficiencies: Choose one (or two ) of the following:

  • Herbalism Kit: craft brews and teas that heal, poison, or induce visions
  • Poisoner’s Kit: distill spore-dusts and tinctures that bend minds or spread decay
  • Disguise Kit: weave alluring masks and fungal pigments to shift your form
  • Musical Instrument (flute, drum, or chimes): channel spores through sound, inducing trance or guiding allies into the whispers of the web
Languages: Most Entangled Ones do not learn a new tongue in the traditional sense. Their truest communion is with the fungal web itself, an innate sense of whispers, impressions, and visions beyond words. However, to reflect their mystical heritage, you may choose one additional language if desired. Sylvan is common among those who embrace the dreamscape of spores, while others may prefer Undercommon to reflect their predatory nature in the dark. Alternatively, you may forgo a spoken language altogether, trusting only in the wordless network of root and spore.

Feature: Whisper of the Web

Through the mycelial network, you may send and receive whispers carried by unseen fungal threads. When in natural environments (forests, caves, swamps, or any place where fungi grow, which is basically everywhere), you can glean information from the living web of roots, spores, and fruits (mushrooms). With a few minutes of quiet communion, you can learn about recent events in the area: creatures that passed by, changes in the land, or disturbances to the natural cycle. In settlements, you may sense decay or mold in hidden corners, sometimes finding overlooked paths or concealed spaces. Additionally, other druids, rangers, or nature-attuned folk often recognize the fungal mark upon you and may treat you with wary respect or superstition.

Spell List

Those who walk the path of an Entangled One weave their magic through spores, roots, and whispers. Their spells often reflect the duality of fungi: hallucinatory charm and predatory decay, concealment and revelation, balance and transformation. To cast is not to speak words of power, but to exhale spores, to awaken the threads beneath the earth, and to let the fungal chorus echo through the mind of another.

Spell Level Spells

The magic of an Entangled One seeps, grows, and whispers. These spells echo the nature of fungi: slow and patient, yet overwhelming once they take root. Some create clouds of spores that obscure or beguile, while others infect the mind with visions and whispers that bend thought and will. Others channel the resilience of the fungal web, binding wounds or snaring prey in roots and mycelium. To wield these spells is to become both bloom and rot, beauty and decay. An assassin whose every breath carries the promise of transformation.

Suggested Characteristics

Entangled Ones embody the duality of fungi: alluring yet unsettling, patient yet predatory, beautiful yet born of decay. Many move with quiet grace, listening to whispers only they can hear, and carry an eerie calm that can soothe or unnerve. Their bond with the fungal web shapes their values: some see themselves as guardians of balance, others as hunters pruning corruption. Whether nurturing or merciless, they live by the certainty that all things return to the cycle.

d6 Ideal
1 Balance: Everything must return to the cycle. Nothing wasted.
2 Growth: Even in decay, there is renewal
3 Protection: The wild must be defended from those who exploit it
4 Secrecy: Shadows and whispers are safer than banners and shouts
5 Harmony: All things are connected. To harm one root is to harm the web
6 Judgment: Those who threaten the balance must be pruned.

Contacts

Entangled Ones rarely walk alone, even if they appear solitary. Their communion with the fungal web links them to others who share its whispers. A may know hermits who study rot and renewal, druids who revere the undergrowth, assassins who use spores to veil their strikes, or even strange fey who dwell where mushrooms glow. Some keep mortal contacts only as tools, while others maintain bonds with covens, cults, or guilds that respect the balance of bloom and decay. Whether ally, mentor, or rival, your contacts are threads in the larger web that guides your path.
