Scribe's Apprentice Image

At a young age, you were sold into an apprenticeship (either by  your parents, the law, or on your own - all of these are socially acceptable) to a scribe, a professional scribe.  Your master is very learned in the laws of the land, as well as the proper techniques for writing various letters and legal documents.  He is often hired for these skills, as well as to copy books and scrolls too damaged to be repaired.  Under your master, you have learned to prepare writing materials, mix inks, copy text, illuminate important letters or pages, and the art of binding books.  You know all about various inks and the various pens used in writing.  You know all the types of vellum and parchment, and how to obtain and create all of these.  You have begun to learn the techniques of writing various documents, and have been set to the task of copying documents, scrolls and even several small books of low importance.  You have assisted with legal documents, and have done some writing of poetry and narratives in your own time.  You have traveled to several nearby cities to assist you master in the writing of legal documents for merchants and guilds.

You started learning this as a joke, something to pass the time as you trained under your master.  However,  you soon found the trick of it and it came entirely too easy for you.  If given an example of someone's writing and you are able to study it over an eight hour period, practicing on parchment of your own, you can copy a person's handwriting nearly perfectly.  If someone suspects it to be untrue, they must make an investigation (DC = 12 + your proficiency bonus) to determine it is a fake.
