Adamant Order Agent Image

The Adamant Order is a secret, militant monastic organization founded by Tenebrous and dedicated to serving the Raven Queen, the Goddess of Death and Fate. Their operatives bear no official title, but are referred to as "inquisitors" by those who practice necromancy. You are an Adamant Order agent. Your duty is to silence heretics who would undermine the dictates of fate and the will of the Raven Queen.

Choose Your Operational Cell and Codename

The Adamant Order is structured into several specialized Cells, each led by a Major Inquisitor and dedicated to a specific function.

You must choose one of the following operational cells and an accompanying personal codename. All members of the Order abandon their birth name for operational security, known only by their chosen codename. Your cell defines your primary mission and your known safehouse locations.

Operational Cell Name Leader (Codename) Core Mission Primary Safehouse (Static)
Iron Gauntlet Stygian Direct Action & Purge. The militant arm focused on frontal assaults and the absolute destruction of necromantic cults. A seemingly empty warehouse near the lower-level docks of Jrusar (Marquet), accessible only via a blood ritual and an Infernal phrase.
Gilded Serpents Anathema Infiltration & Espionage. Dedicated to deep cover, psychological warfare, and manipulating high-value targets. Operates exclusively using deep cover and embedded networks (No static safehouse).
Echo Trackers Obscura Intelligence & Reconnaissance. Focused on long-range tracking, scouting, and gathering critical intel on high-level enemies. A disguised apartment beneath Emon's aqueducts (Tal'Dorei).
Unbroken Shield Nemesis Extraction & Protection. Focused on extracting compromised agents, protecting key informants, and securing unstable evidence. Multi-layered storage facility in Zadash sewers (Wildemount).
Ghost Hands Wisprian Acquisition & Heist. Focused on high-stakes heists to acquire dangerous artifacts and vital resources for the Order. A warded, abandoned watchtower in Whitestone (Tal'Dorei).

Skill Proficiencies: Deception, Stealth
Tool Proficiencies: Disguise kit
Languages: One of your choice
Equipment: A set of common clothes, a black cloak with a hood, a disguise kit, and a pouch containing 10 gp

Tragedy

The Order recruits individuals referred to as "fate-touched," who have been personally scarred by undeath or survived impossible odds, marking them for a unique destiny.

d6 Tragedy
1 Cult Survivor. A necromantic cult destroyed your home or family; you are the only one who escaped.
2 Marked by Undeath. You survived a direct encounter with a powerful undead creature, and the lingering shadow drew the Order’s attention.
3 A Mercy Killing. You were forced to put down a loved one brought back through necromancy, cementing your hatred for perverting the natural order.
4 Forbidden Knowledge. You discovered a terrible secret (phylactery, hidden tomb) and are now hunted; the Order is your only protection.
5 Returned. You died and stood before the Raven Queen, who returned you to the world with a purpose you are now bound to fulfill.
6 Hollow One. You should have died but returned changed. Your connection to the border between life and death makes you a perfect instrument.

Feature: Shadow Network

You have access to the Adamant Order's clandestine communication network for long-distance communication. This network is secure and allows agents to communicate without relying on open magic or mundane postal services.

  • Operation: By writing a letter in special arcane ink (costs 10 gp per page) and addressing it to a known agent by their codename, you can cast it into a fire (any source of flames).

  • Effect: The letter will burn to cinders and magically materialize on the person of the addressed agent. This method is secure and untraceable by conventional magical means.

Suggested Characteristics

Agents of the Adamant Order are trained to follow orders without question and to kill without mercy. The fates that hang in the balance are too dire for clemency to be given to those who subvert fate. Officially the order exists only in rumor.

d8 Personality Trait
1 I am unnervingly calm, even when in a state of mortal danger. Emotion is a vulnerability.
2 I speak in short, concise sentences. My goal is information transfer, not friendly chatter.
3 I find the messiness of non-agents—their attachments, their petty squabbles—to be contemptible and inefficient.
4 I have a tic of compulsively sharpening my weapon or cleaning my gear, always ready for the next mission.
5 I only ever refer to myself and other agents by our codenames.
6 I am a master of disguise and rarely appear as my true self in public. I prefer to observe from the shadows.
7 I possess an unshakeable sense of destiny and fatalism. My death is already written, so I fear nothing.
8 I am utterly unyielding. Once a decision is made, it is done. Doubt is a waste of time.
d6 Ideal
1 Order (Lawful): The Raven Queen’s will is absolute. Everything must be brought to its proper, fated end.
2 The Mission (Lawful): All personal attachments are secondary to the Order's prime directive: the eradication of undeath and heretical lore.
3 Purity (Neutral): The world must be scoured of the corruption of necromancy. No price is too high for true vigilance.
4 Necessity (Evil): We are the ones who must do what is required. If innocents must suffer for the greater good of the world, so be it.
5 Secrecy (Any): To be effective, we must be invisible. Our silence is our most powerful weapon.
6 Unyielding Resolve (Lawful): I will never bend, break, or compromise my duty to the Order or the Queen of Fate.
d6 Bond
1 My codename is a sacred oath I take with deadly seriousness; it is the truest representation of my new identity.
2 I am spiritually and emotionally bound to my black cloak; it is the only true home I have ever known.
3 My deepest commitment is to the Raven Queen; I seek her will in every shadow and every sign of death.
4 I carry a relic (a piece of bone, a rusted sword, a faded locket) from a loved one killed by undeath. I seek vengeance through my duty.
5 The leader of my cell (Nemesis, Stygian, or Obscura) is the only person I trust and whose word is law.
6 The existence of The Silent Vigil (the Order's mobile fortress) gives me hope that there is still a powerful force fighting the darkness.
d6 Flaw
1 I cannot form meaningful attachments. I see every relationship as a weakness to be exploited or a liability to be protected.
2 I am quick to violence. If someone is an impediment to the mission, they are an acceptable casualty.
3 I am paranoid. I constantly worry that the existence of the Order is compromised, and I suspect everyone outside of it.
4 I have a self-destructive tendency to push myself far beyond my limits, believing I am expendable to the mission.
5 I hold a dangerous, fanatical hatred for all arcane lore, viewing any ancient knowledge as a potential anchor for Vecna's return.
6 My Unyielding Resolve makes me inflexible and unable to improvise when a situation deviates from the plan.
