Some people are haunted by monsters. You are haunted by your soul.
Born under strange omens, you manifested a Stand — a spectral embodiment of your life force and willpower. Invisible to ordinary eyes, your Stand acts as both protector and weapon, bound eternally to your fate.
Where others see an empty room, you see your Stand watching silently, waiting to act on your command.
- Skill Proficiencies: Choose two from among Arcana, Investigation, Religion, or Insight
- Tool Proficiencies: One artisan’s tool or musical instrument of your choice (representing your Stand’s “theme” or origin)
- Languages: Choose two, one of which must be Abyssal, Celestial, Deep Speech, Draconic, Infernal, Primordial, Sylvan, or Undercommon
- Equipment: A [Tooltip Not Found], a worn journal detailing strange phenomena, a set of travelers clothes, and 10 gp.
Your Stand is an incorporeal extension of your soul that only you and others with similar abilities can perceive.
You can manifest or dismiss your Stand as a bonus action. While manifested:
Your Stand occupies your space or floats near you. It cannot be harmed directly, but damaging magic that targets your spirit or life force (such as dispel evil and good or disintegrate) can affect it.
You may choose one of the following manifestations (decide when you take this background):
Stand Types (choose one)
1. Power Type – When you make a melee weapon attack, your Stand’s strength flows through you. Once per turn, you can deal extra damage equal to your proficiency bonus.
2. Speed Type – Your Stand moves with inhuman reflexes. You can add your proficiency bonus to initiative rolls. Once per long rest, you can take the Dash or Disengage action as a bonus action.
3. Precision Type – Your Stand aids your accuracy. When you make an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw, you can reroll a result of 1 once per long rest.
4. Ability Type – Your Stand has a minor supernatural power, such as manipulating objects telekinetically, creating harmless illusions, or producing a simple elemental effect within 30 feet (DM’s discretion).
Suggested Characteristics
Your bond with your Stand often isolates you — few understand the feeling of your own soul standing beside you. You may struggle with paranoia, divine awe, or egomania.
