Beast Of Burden Image

Once, you labored under the glittering cruelty of the Fey. You hauled their treasures, built their halls, or dragged their sleds through endless snow. When you escaped, the strength that had served your masters became your own. You still carry a trace of their strange magic, but your hands are scarred from honest work now, not their wicked whims.

Ability Scores: The Beast of Burden Background allows you to choose between Strength, Constitution, and Charisma. Increase one of these scores by 2 and another one by 1, or increase all three by 1. None of these increases can raise a score above 20.
Feat: Fey Touched:

Your exposure to the Feywild's magic has changed you, granting you the following benefits:

  • Increase your Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma score by 1, to a maximum of 20.
  • You learn the Misty Step spell and one 1st-level spell of your choice. The 1st-level spell must be from the Divination or Enchantment school of magic. You can cast each of these spells without expending a spell slot. Once you cast either of these spells in this way, you can't cast that spell in this way again until you finish a long rest. You can also cast these spells using spell slots you have of the appropriate level. The spells' spellcasting ability is the ability you choose to increase by this feat.
Skill Proficiencies: Skill Proficiencies

Athletics – an unending regimen of constantly changing, often unnecessary work has made your body ready for anything.
Stealth – you learned to move quietly when disobedience meant pain.

Tool Proficiencies: Tool Proficiencies

As a part of your work in the Winter Court, you gained a journeyman’s ability in one set of Artisan’s Tools.

Equipment: Equipment

Common clothes reinforced with patches of fey-woven thread, the Artisan’s Tools that once marked your service, a small keepsake from your escape (a shard of broken chain or a frozen coin with a hole in it), and 10 gp.

Feature: Strength of the Escaped

Common folk recognize hard labor when they see it. You can find shelter or honest work among laborers, sailors, miners, and craftspeople wherever you go. They trust you as one of their own, offering meals and a place by the fire in return for a day’s help or a shared story.

Among the fey, your bearing marks you as a servant who got away — they may mock or fear you, but they will not forget you.
