“Cleanliness is Purity. Purity is Power. Hair is the Root of Sin.”
Origins and Myth
Long ago, in a forgotten age when gods still walked the Material Plane, there was a vain demigod known as Ton’dur the Smooth, patron of mirrors, beauty, and “perfect form.”
When mortals mocked him for his hairless visage, he cursed all who bore the mark of hair — claiming that it was the shadow of the beast within.
Ton’dur’s followers soon founded the Order of the Shaven Path, believing that by removing all hair, they purified themselves of mortal corruption. In time, his teachings twisted into fanaticism:
“To cleanse the flesh is to cleanse the soul. To shave another is to save another.”
The modern Shaven Cult are the last remnants of that ancient order, now a deranged and dangerous sect found in hidden bathhouses, abandoned spas, and subterranean tonsorial temples.
Beliefs & Doctrine
The Shaven Cult preaches three immutable truths:
- Hair Conceals the Evil Within.
Body hair is seen as a sign of inner chaos and moral decay. - The Razor is Holy.
Shaving implements — blessed blades, enchanted shears, even scouring sand — are sacred relics. - Conversion Through Exfoliation.
To be shaved by a cultist is to be reborn in the image of Ton’dur.
Failure to submit to cleansing results in the only acceptable alternative: total purification by fire.
Rites and Rituals
- The First Shaving: Initiates are forcibly depilated by enchanted razors that hum with divine energy. They must not flinch or cry out — to do so brands them “Beast of Follicle.”
- The Purging Foam: A ceremonial lather, made from ash, oil, and holy water, is applied before any ritual shaving. It smells faintly of lavender and fanaticism.
- The Waxing of Wills: High priests perform an ecstatic ritual where heated wax is poured in sigils across the flesh, then torn away in rhythm with prayers to Ton’dur.
Enemies and Targets
The Shaven Cult despises:
- Druids (symbol of nature’s unkemptness)
- Dwarves (too hairy to save)
- Werecreatures (viewed as walking blasphemy)
- Adventurers with beards (“false prophets of the unclean path”)
They often ambush travelers, offering “cleansing” before “combat.” If a target willingly allows depilation, the cult will attempt indoctrination. Resistance ensures a fight — complete with magical razors and enchanted foam bombs.
Hierarchical Structure
Cultists: Low-ranking zealots who wield straight razors and enchanted soaps. Obsessed with removing the hair of others as penance for their own “follicular sins.”
Vets (Veterans of the Smooth Path): Commanders who have undergone a thousand purgings and bear ritual scars that gleam like polished marble.
High Priests of Ton’dur: Mystics who channel divine power through sacred blades and perform “Full Body Exorcisms” via mass shaving ceremonies.
The Big Bad Boss — The Bald Apostle:
A legendary being said to have achieved Perfect Smoothness. Their very presence causes hair to fall out in clumps. Some say the Bald Apostle is Ton’dur reborn… others whisper it’s a wax golem animated by the god’s ego.
