You are or were a pit fighter

Minyoc is a sprawling, chaotic frontier town situated at the raw edge of the known civilized lands, a place where the rule of law is sparse and the only true authority is the "Code of the Pit." The city has few laws beyond the absolute adherence to the rules of the pit, which primarily ensure the spectacle is fair in the eyes of the gamblers and organizers. The pit bosses are the true power in Minyoc, and their word is law.  They are ruthless individuals who have risen to power through cunning, strength, and a complete lack of moral constraints. They thrive on the violence and greed of the town, ensuring that while the fighters battle for a slim chance at freedom or glory, the bosses always win.

It's a rough, bustling settlement built primarily of salvaged timber and stone, surrounded by a high, reinforced palisade meant to keep out the chaotic wilds. The air is thick with the smells of cheap ale, sweat, and blood.  The town's very existence revolves around its infamous pit fighting circuit, an organized spectacle of violence and ambition. The population is a transient mix of merchants, gamblers, sellswords, and those with nowhere else to go. The pit fighters themselves represent a grim cross-section of society: slaves, indentured servants desperate to buy their freedom, and free individuals seeking rapid fame, fortune, or a glorious death. Few succeed in their quest for freedom; most meet a brutal end in the sand.

The culture is raw and primal, focusing on survival, spectacle, and the next big win. It's a place where a penniless drifter can become a legend overnight, and a legend can be dead by dawn. The pervasive feeling is one of desperation and fleeting opportunity, a testament to the town's location on the very edge of civilized society.

The entire town's economy is a high-stakes, volatile ecosystem driven by gambling and combat. The flow of money is constant and rapid, with large sums changing hands daily based on the fights.  While regular coin is accepted, local trade often relies on a system of chits or tokens issued and regulated by The Pit Bosses, ensuring money stays within the town's ecosystem.

Numerous secondary businesses feed off the main attraction.  Taverns and gambling halls are the most prevalent businesses.  Healers and bone setters are common, although they can be expensive due to their high demand.  Many arms and armor shops are scattered through the industrial district and set up nearby pits.

The Tiers of the Circuit
The path to glory in Minyoc is a brutal tiered system that mirrors the town’s physical layout:
  • The Outer Fields: The lowest tier of fighting takes place in rudimentary, muddy pits just outside the city walls. Here, new or dishonored fighters battle for meager stakes, often watched by the town’s poor and opportunistic. The fights are raw and deadly, a proving ground where only the strongest or most cunning survive their first few bouts.
  • The Inner Pits: As fighters survive and their notoriety grows, they are permitted within the city proper. These enclosed, sand-filled arenas host high-stakes matches where wealthy merchants and corrupt officials wager fortunes on the outcome. The winners are showered with gifts, adoration, and better living conditions, while the losers often face permanent injury or death.
  • The Hole: The pinnacle of the circuit is a massive stone arena at the very heart of Minyoc. This is where champions from the Inner Pits face their ultimate challenges. It is not uncommon to find horrific opponents in the Grand Arena, as the organizers import and pit humanoid monsters—like captured orcs, gnolls, or even more exotic creatures—against the town's greatest champions. Sometimes these beastly humanoids are the town's greatest champions.  The crowd here is a roaring, bloodthirsty spectacle, a microcosm of the town's lawless spirit.
