Moonmarked Image

You carry the touch of the Crooked Moon - a silvery curse, or blessing woven into your soul. When the moonlight bends strangely, or laughter echoes where none should, you sometimes see reflections move, or hear faint whispers that know your name.

Whether you've escaped the Carnival, were born during the Hunger Festival, or simply looked too long into a mirror under moonlight, something saw you... and marked you. The mark lingers, shimmering faintly whenever the moon wanes, and the world around you occasionally responds as if it remembers something you do not.

Ability Scores: Your connection to the Moon has heightened both your insight into others and your awareness of the unnatural.

When creating your character, you can increase one ability score of your choice by 1 - this could be Wisdom, Charismas, or Intelligence, reflecting whether your mark manifests as intuition, persuasion, or an understanding of the arcane.

Feat: You may take a feat, or an ability score increase.
Skill Proficiencies: You gain proficiency in Insight and Arcana, helping you to read both people, and magic.

Alternatively, you can replace Arcana with Religion, or Perceptions to reflect your specific connection to the Moon's Influence.

  • Disguise Kit, to represent your ability to mask your Moon mark, or
  • Herbalism Kit, to reflect a knowledge of cures and lunar remedies passed amongst the afflicted.
Languages: You can speak, read and write one of the following:

  • Sylvan, fey language,
  • Deep Speech, or,
  • Mooncant, a secret dialect or murmured, mirrored phrases.
Equipment: You start with the following equipment in addition to the equipment granted by your class:

  • A silver shard that hums under moonlight (a trinket),
  • A small hand mirror that sometimes fogs from the inside,
  • A set of traveller's clothes,
  • A pouch containing 10gp in tarnished Somberreach coins.

Feature: Moon's Whisper

You can sense the subtle presence of the Crooked Moon's influence. Whenever you enter a place that is tainted by lunar, or fey corruption (such as mirror magic, or the Carnival), you feel a brief vertigo of recognition - like you're remembering a dream.

Once per long rest, you may whisper a question to the unseen reflection within your mirror shard and make a DC 15 Insight check.

On a success, you receive a cryptic clue, omen or image that is related to your question. The information is never direct, and it may come as a rhyme, laughter or a fleeting reflection in the shard - but it is always relevant.

Spell List

Some Moonmarked individuals exhibit a faint echo of the Moon's power - fragments of dream and reflection that can often manifest as minor magic. These spells often shimmer with silver light, flicker like laughter, or appear through mirrored surfaces (including puddles or pools of clear water).

Your DM may allow you to learn one, or more of these spells as you level up, representing your growing bond with your Moon mark.
