He lost his father while in his teens to vicious monsters. The village chieftain said he could help him become stronger and more powerful so as to destroy the monsters who killed his father. He accepted and was fed a nasty potion that made him writhe in pain. Along with the potion was the ritual that joined a monstrous heart with his body.
