Drow Newcomer Image

This background is for drow elves only!

Most drow do not leave the comfort of the Underdark unless it is to raid and pillage their enemies.  You are not one of these, through a set of circumstances you now find yourself wandering above ground, probably for the first time!   You know your people's reputation on the surface but you brave it anyways!

Recent heroes from the underdark make being a drow on the surface more acceptable, however most surface dwellers who know of your kind will hate or fear you.  If you are lucky they will know nothing of the drow.  However other types of elves will still distrust you at best, try to kill you at worst.

The sun and the moon both are brighter than any lights you have seen previously.  The discomfort these strange orbs bring onto you feel like oppression or freedom or somewhere in between.

Did you leave drow society because you are running from the oppressive matriarchy,  a ruling house, spurned lover, Lolth's fanatics, or none of the above?  perhaps the surface world can offer you riches, a new love, a fresh start, fun or something you didn't know you were looking for!

(note: update now fixed the equipment issues, might rework to just underdark specific)

To determine why you are so far from home, roll on the table below or choose from the options provided. The following section, discussing possible homelands, includes some suggested reasons that are appropriate for each location.

d8 Why Are You Here?
1 Exile
2 Exploration
3 Profit
4 Escaped from servitude
5 Hunted
6 Wanderer
7 Better life
8 Captive

Feature: All Eyes on You

Your appearance perhaps your accent, your mannerisms and speech all mark you as a drow or at least foreign. Curious glances are directed your way wherever you go, which can be a nuisance, but you also gain the friendly interest of scholars and others intrigued by far-off lands, to say nothing of everyday folk who are eager to hear stories of your homeland.

You can parley this attention into access to people and places you might not otherwise have, for you and your traveling companions. Noble lords, scholars, and merchant princes, to name a few, might be interested in hearing about your distant homeland and people.
