Skybound Predator Image

The air is your hunting ground.

You were trained—or evolved—to stalk prey from above. Whether as a scout, apex hunter, or living weapon, you learned to read wind, altitude, and silence as instinctively as others read roads and doors. Patience, positioning, and the moment of descent define your approach.

Skybound Predators are most often associated with winged peoples such as the Drakaryn, whose physiology and culture are shaped by open skies, vertical terrain, and aerial hunting traditions. This background may also represent characters trained in similar predatory doctrines through magic, mounts, or extreme environmental adaptation.

Ability Scores: Skybound Predators favor agility, awareness, and endurance. Dexterity and Wisdom commonly reflect their reliance on stealth, navigation, and survival in open terrain.

Aerial Hunting Methods

Skybound Predators develop distinct hunting styles shaped by terrain, altitude, and prey behavior.

d6 Aerial Hunting Methods
1 High-altitude circling followed by rapid descent
2 Terrain masking using clouds or cliff faces
3 Long-distance shadowing before engagement
4 Ambush from thermal updrafts
5 Coordinated strikes with ground allies
6 Patient endurance hunts across open terrain

Feature: Three-Dimensional Hunter

You are trained to hunt across vertical space.

When tracking creatures that move through open terrain or airspace, you ignore disadvantage imposed by altitude, vertical distance, or aerial approach angles. You can also determine whether tracked prey was grounded, climbing, or flying based on tracks, disturbance patterns, or environmental signs.

This feature provides enhanced tracking capability without granting advantage on attack rolls or perception checks.

Suggested Characteristics

Skybound Predators are often patient, observant, and decisive. They may prefer open skies to crowded spaces and feel constrained indoors.

d4 Personality Trait

2 Open skies calm me; enclosed spaces do not.
3 I trust positioning more than strength.
4 I measure distance instinctively, even on the ground.
