You died… and somehow returned years later. Your soul has crossed the threshold and come back altered, leaving you changed in mind, body, or presence. This background represents your resurrection and the lingering echoes of death in your life.
- Ability Scores: Your experience of death grants a deeper connection to your instincts and awareness. Gain a +1 bonus to Wisdom or Constitution.
- Feat: Once per long rest, when you fail a saving throw, you may reroll it. You must take the new result. Additionally, you have advantage on saving throws against being frightened.
- Skill Proficiencies: Insight plus one of the following: Arcana, Religion, or Survival. Your experiences beyond death grant you awareness of hidden truths and forces.
- Tool Proficiencies: One of the following: Herbalism Kit, Calligrapher’s Supplies, or one musical instrument. Your post-death life left you with practical or ritualistic knowledge.
- Languages: Common and one additional language of your choice. Time spent away from the living world may have exposed you to foreign tongues or forgotten lore.
- Equipment: A personal item recovered upon your return (cracked, aged, or otherwise altered), a journal containing fragmented memories from before and after death, traveler’s pack, and 10 gp. The item and journal serve as tangible reminders of your death and return.
