You can often identify the origin, approximate age, or cultural significance of ruins, artifacts, symbols, or architectural styles. In ancient sites, you can usually determine:

 

  • Who built the place

  • What it was used for

  • What dangers might still exist (traps, curses, guardians)

  • Cartographer’s tools or Mason’s tools
  • One type of artisan’s tools (your choice, often used to preserve or study relics)
Languages: One ancient or uncommon language (such as Draconic, Dwarvish, or a dead human tongue)
Equipment:
  • A small trowel and brush for excavation
  • A journal of sketches and notes about ruins you’ve studied
  • A fragment of an ancient artifact (broken, inert, or mysterious)
  • Traveler’s clothes
  • A pouch containing 10 gp

  • If  your character's expedition focused on recovering and preserving ancient relics or artifacts, this title could imply that they were not only leading the expedition but also overseeing the curation of artifacts for museums or scholarly institutions.
