For as long as Siege Warfare has existed, there has been a need to bring down an enemy's fortifications, from a mere wall to a mighty castle.  It's an arms race between those who design such fortifications and those who learn the art and science of destroying them.

Those who learn this science are called Sappers.  Skilled in evaluating an enemy's defenses and architecture, a Sapper determines the weak point in these and the right methods to bring them down, using subterranean tunnels (called mines) to the use of fire, explosives, and even magic.  Their usefulness to their liege not only applies to bringing down a fortification, but to defend against enemy Sappers as well.

Skill Proficiencies: As a Sapper you are proficient in Investigation and Perception, useful skills for finding the chink in a defense that you can exploit.
Tool Proficiencies: As a Sapper you are proficient in the use of Carpenter's Tools and Mining Tools (see equipment description below).
Languages: You know one Language of your choice.
Equipment: One set of common clothing, lamp with a flask of oil, 3 torches, belt pouch containing 10gp, Miner's tools.consisting of the following:  1 Shovel, 1 Miner's Pick, Hammer.

Feature: Bring It Crashing Down!

As a Sapper you are trained to find the weak point in an enemy fortification or defensive emplacement and target it to do maximum damage.  When rolling an Investigation check, the Sapper can analyze a fortification or defense and pinpoint the weak spots that it can be brought down at.  In practical usage the skills of a Sapper adds bonus damage dice to a Siege Weapon equal to 1/2 the Sapper's Proficiency Bonus, rounded up (minimum of plus one damage die) this can apply to spell casting capable of destroying such things.   In addition a Sapper is an expert in underground mining and tunneling operations, and can determine the direction a tunnel is going in, the relative depth beneath the ground that the Sapper is at, and the overall stability of the tunnel with a successful Perception check (Investigation to determine the tunnel's stability.)
