Your story is not one of terrible uniqueness. Sure, life has been interesting, but never something the bards would write home about. In the beginning, life was so simple it could be likened to an single strand of an impossibly large tapestry: fair in its length and color, but mundane compared to the fuller picture. And mundane your life was -- until it was not.
At some point, some entity or cosmic force -- be it an individual or a concept like destiny itself -- took notice of your comparably unremarkable life and decided you were worth being used. Unlike warlocks, this being or concept did not grant you power over eldritch mysteries and magic. Instead, you have been strung along into adventures in utter contrast to your previously docile existence; unknowingly invited to waltz through settings, lives, and plots you could never have imagined. Regardless the happenings, your life would never be the same. Worse still, there is no way of knowing how you will be used.

When you take this background, the DM may secretly assign whatever creature or concept has been secretly pulling the strings of your life. Throughout the course of your adventures, this unknown force moves you like a chess piece across the cosmic board. Whether you discover the truth of this is entirely up to the story and DM's discretion.
Whenever an Intelligence skill check is made by your companions to uncover more mysteries and the overarching story of your adventures, such as Investigation to put together clues or History to recall an important bit of lore, you discover a detail that moves the plot forward if all checks todo so failed. What is found is the bare minimum of what is necessary for the story, potentially leaving out helpful information to make future progress easier, and you are completely unaware that this was accomplished by anything short of a accident.
