You have devoted your life to the study, preservation, and understanding of magical creatures. While others see monsters, you see misunderstood marvels. You have traveled wild frontiers, deep forests, forgotten ruins, and even other planes to observe rare beings in their natural habitats. Your notebooks are filled with sketches, feeding habits, habitat conditions, and careful warnings.

Whether you are an academic researcher, field naturalist, conservationist, or eccentric collector of creature trivia, your knowledge of magical fauna sets you apart.

Choose a creature type from the table above, or roll to randomly determine. You become an expert in this creature type. When you attempt to recall information about this animal type, you know where and from whom you can obtain additional information if it is not common knowledge.

Additionally:

  • You can usually identify a creature’s habitat, diet, temperament, and signs of nearby presence.

  • You can often secure lodging or cooperation from druids, rangers, scholars, or magical institutions by sharing your research.

  • Scholars and collectors may seek you out for consultation on rare or dangerous creatures.

At the DM’s discretion, you may recognize behavioral patterns in this creature type that grant advantage on one relevant Intelligence check related to them.
Additionally, at the DM's discretion, once you level up, you gain more knowledge about your chosen creature type, and maybe even become an expert of other creature types at certain levels.
