You have been a trader for some time. Either you were part of a merchant guild or you have been doing the trade on your own. You can be either a traveling merchant, or perhaps a local one. You would most likely not have a shop larger than a carpet or a cart, since you are just starting out, but you certainly have the will and skills for the craft. You would most likely have been a child of a merchant, or just a shopkeeper.
As a merchant, it is far from uncommon for you to travel in order to either reach places with good wares that you can sell for a better price, or to reach a new destination, where you can set up shop. But your call to adventure would most likely lie in this traveling. Either you have heard of certain items that you can sell to a better price, you have heard of a good city to set up shop in, or perhaps one of your wares were stolen from you and you have taken it upon yourself to retrieve the item.
- Skill Proficiencies: Investigation, Persuasion
- Languages: Two languages of your choice
- Equipment: merchant's scale, a backpack, a charcoal pen, a logbook with wares that you have sold and their prices, traveler's clothes, an abacus, a bell, 2d6 rolls from the trinkets table (players handbook page 160-161), a mule and a cart, and a pouch containing 15 gp.
Whenever you are in town, you can open up shop inbetween adventures, even if you only have your cart or a blanket that you can showcase your wares from. With this, you can earn a living depending of how well you can sell your wares.
However, you might be required to seek a permit from the townsguards, they might be called to check whether your wares are not stolen goods, and if there are a merchants guild in town, they might begin to rival with you. Any of these are determined by the GM.
