Transformed Being Image

You were not born into your current form. Once you were something else—a slithering ooze, a majestic dragon, a mindless undead, a cunning fey, a towering giant, or any other creature. Through magic, curse, or cosmic intervention, your essence was reshaped into a new body. You retain fragmented memories, instincts, and echoes of your original self, which sometimes surface in strange ways. Some view you with awe or pity; others with fear or suspicion. You wander the world seeking answers, revenge, a way to reverse the change, or simply a place to belong in your new skin.

Feat:

In addition to the standard benefits, you may select one feat of your choice from the following sources:

  • Player’s Handbook
  • Planescape: Adventures in the Multiverse
  • Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything
  • Bigby’s Presents: Glory of the Giants
  • Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons
  • The Book of Many Things
Skill Proficiencies: Two skill proficiencies from your past form.
Languages: Up to two languages of your choice that you knew in your past form.
Equipment: Up to three items worth 50 gp or less in total, a set of clothes, and a pouch containing 30 gp.

Feature: Echoes of the Old Form

People and creatures sometimes sense that you are not what you appear to be. Animals or beings related to your original creature type might react to you with unusual curiosity, wariness, or kinship (a former beast might draw wolves closer, a former aberration could unsettle mind flayers or cause strange dreams in nearby aberrations). Scholars, mages, or those familiar with transformative magic may take interest in your story, offering rumors, warnings, or cryptic advice about reversals or similar cases.

Suggested Characteristics
d8 Personality Trait
1 I constantly compare my current experiences to vague memories of my old form, often muttering about how "things used to feel different."
2 I am fascinated by my new body's sensations—tasting food, feeling wind, or wielding tools—and approach everyday tasks with childlike wonder or frustration.
3 I trust very few people, fearing they might try to exploit, study, or reverse my transformation against my will.
4 I overcompensate for my old instincts, forcing myself to act "normal" in my new shape, sometimes to ridiculous extremes.
5 Strange remnants of my original nature surface at odd times—I might hiss when startled, hoard shiny objects, or feel an urge to burrow.
6 I seek out others who have undergone changes (lycanthropes, polymorphed victims, warforged) to share stories and feel less alone.
7 My sense of identity is fluid; I introduce myself with both my old and new names or describe myself in contradictory ways.
8 I have a dark, wry humor about my situation, joking about "shedding my skin" or "outgrowing my old problems."
d6 Ideal
1 Understanding. True wisdom comes from embracing change and learning from every form of existence. (Neutral)
2 Freedom. No one should be forced into a shape that isn't theirs; I will fight against coercive magic and curses. (Chaotic)
3 Resilience. Whatever doesn't kill you — or completely rewrites your being — makes you stronger in unexpected ways. (Any)
4 Order. Change must be controlled, regulated, and guided by law and tradition so that it does not destroy what is good and stable. (Lawful)
5 Revenge. Whoever or whatever did this to me will answer for it, one way or another. (Evil)
6 Harmony. The world is richer when different kinds of beings coexist and learn from one another. (Good)
d6 Bond
1 I still have a family, pack, court, or creator from my original form that I desperately want to contact or protect.
2 The mage, fey lord, priest, or entity responsible for my transformation is still out there — I need to find them.
3 A fellow "changed" being (or someone who helped me after the event) is my closest ally and confidant.
4 I carry a precious object or memory that is the last tangible link to my old life.
5 My new form grants me insight into a greater threat (planar incursion, ancient curse, etc.), and I feel responsible for stopping it.
6 I owe a life debt to the person or group that sheltered me when I was vulnerable right after the change.
d6 Flaw
1 I sometimes revert to the instincts or behaviors of my old creature type at the worst possible moments.
2 I am paranoid that the transformation might reverse (or worsen) without warning.
3 I overvalue my new abilities and take reckless risks to prove I'm "better" than before.
4 I have difficulty forming deep connections because I fear others will reject me once they learn what I used to be.
5 Fragments of my old memories surface as confusing impulses or nightmares that distract me.
6 I secretly (or not so secretly) resent "normal" beings who never had their entire existence upended.
