You owned a small inn or tavern that, for some reason, is no longer yours to manage. Your adventuring is tied to getting it back or perhaps starting anew. You are known in your local community for the reputation your establishment carries (or carried), as well as the rumors around why you run it no longer. Did a swarm of monsters converge on your inn? Or perhaps a magical altercation? Or maybe a natural disaster flooded the basement, marking it condemned, the bill to renovate a bit too large for your pockets? Or was it lost in a gambling game? Speak with your DM about the nature of the loss and what drives you to get it back.
- Skill Proficiencies: Innkeep of All Trades. You've been working and managing an Inn for quite some time, acquiring skills here and there as you go. You gain proficiency in Persuasion and two other skills of your choice.
- Tool Proficiencies: Choose how you contributed to your Inn's success: either Cook's Utensils (for the Inn's signature meals), Brewer's Supplies (for the Inn's signature ales), Carpenter's Tools (for the Inn's bespoke carpentry and impeccable repair), or Calligrapher's Tools (for the Inn's master bookkeeper). Other tool proficiencies can be chosen as long as they can be traced to your Inn's reputation.
- Languages: One of your choice, reflecting regular (or semi-regular) clientele.
- Equipment: A set of artisan’s tools (one of your choice from the above list), either a deed or other document concerning your Inn, a set of traveler’s clothes, and a pouch containing 15 gp.
