Being born into a goblin clan and knowing little else besides fighting, stealing, and running rarely produces well-rounded individuals. It didn't in your case either, but the only difference is that you have an enormous amount of plucky determination and goblin ambition. You wanted power from a young age and spent time on the streets learning the ways of the grift, aka lying, stealing, and scamming the pants off anyone stupid enough to give you a moment of their time. Over many years, you have refined your craft, keeping in mind the adage that "Money is Power" and pursuing loftier goals, firmly set within the realms of the arcane. There are but two problems with attaining those goals. Those are the two things 99.9% of all goblins lack: book smarts and the patience to acquire them. You failed to become a wizard and lacked the talent to be a sorcerer, but you persevered, learning from as many minds as were willing to teach what they considered lesser. You spent time learning the language of the rule-makers, all the better to break them and bind others to them. You studied just enough to reach out to higher beings, seeking to acquire the arcane nature you were denied at birth. But this is a long road, and there are many on it to exploit.
