Your lot in life has definitely always been to deal with the dead in some manner, but the exact details of your work could differ greatly. Some are headsmen who are tasked with the beheading of traitors and criminals to the cheer of a mob, others are solitary gravediggers who toil in the cemetaries to lay the dead to rest. Because of your occupation, most people have always given you a wide berth and continue to do so if they can help it. Finer establishments might turn you away without question, while more humble and common businesses might just grow anxious or suspicous while you are around. People around you tend to look the other way and pretend like they do not see you, especially if you are actively dealing with the bodies of the deceased. Authorities and guardsmen are less likely to question you about the circumstances regarding your work, and the city might even lend you a mule and a cart for your work free of charge, if bodies need to be taken off the streets.

For all the scorn you face from those above you in the social hierarchy, you might still find some hospitality and acceptance among others at the bottom of the food chain. Street urchins, destitute peasants and the homeless occupying the underbelly of the city are typically more welcoming of you, oftentimes considering you one of their own. Though they may have very little to offer you in terms of lodging, their eyes and ears span most if not all of the city.

Not all who deal with the dead come from the lower classes. Undertakers, coroners and morticians are trained professionals who are tasked with preparing and handling the deceased before and during a funeral rite. While the common man might be just as fearful or suspicious of an undertaker as they are of a gravedigger, the former nonetheless commands more respect and status given the professionalism and education that comes with such a position. You may replace the shovel in your equipment package with a herbalism kit, and rather than proficiency with vehicles (land) you may instead be proficient in the use of a herbalism kit. You may also replace your proficiency in the Stealth skill with proficiency in the Medicine skill.

You are well versed in preparing the dead for a funeral. As long as a body is not too badly damaged on a superficial level, you can clean it up and prepare it so that it looks almost perfectly healthy and as if the deceased is merely sleeping. Skilled morticians are difficult to come by and many wealthy families are willing to pay good coin to have their beloved family members have a worthy and dignified send-off, allowing you to make lead a comfortable life on the earnings of your trade.

Extensive work with with the bodies of the deceased has also given you a great deal of experience in determining what truly caused their deaths, oftentimes picking up on small clues that even more observant eyes might've glanced over or missed because they simply do not stand out to anyone but a trained professional.
