Among the Dalish, some are called to journey far beyond the familiar paths of their clan. A Clan Wayfarer travels to learn how the world beyond the clan has changed: mapping unfamiliar roads, observing the movements of peoples and dangers, gathering news, and seeking knowledge that may help their kin endure.
Though not necessarily a diplomat, a Wayfarer must deal with outsiders and learn whom to trust, when to listen, and when discretion is wiser than openness. Their journey may carry them across nations and into places where the Dalish are poorly understood or openly unwelcome.
Whatever they discover—new threats, safer paths, shifting borders, forgotten lore, or simply a better understanding of the people with whom the Dalish share the world—is carried with them until they can return home and place that knowledge in the hands of their clan.
- Skill Proficiencies: Choose two from Insight, Investigation, Persuasion, and Survival.
- Tool Proficiencies: You gain proficiency with Cartographer's Tools or Herbalism Kit.

- Equipment: A map case containing a map made by your clan, a traveller's journal, a set of traveller's clothes, and a belt pouch containing 10 gp.
Your pilgrimage requires you to learn how the lands beyond your clan have changed. When you spend time in a settlement or inhabited region, you know how to seek out people who regularly travel beyond its borders—hunters, merchants, shepherds, caravanners, scouts and similar folk. Given a few hours among them, you can usually learn the commonly known state of nearby roads and wilderness: which routes are travelled, which are avoided, where unusual creatures or hostile forces have recently been seen, and what significant changes travelers have noticed. This information reflects local knowledge and may be incomplete or mistaken.
Suggested Characteristics
| d8 | Personality Trait |
|---|---|
| 1 | I am rarely lost. Even somewhere unfamiliar, I make a habit of remembering landmarks and the path behind me. |
| 2 | I would rather listen for an hour than speak for a minute. People reveal much when they think you are merely being polite. |
| 3 | I collect maps, stories, rumours, and scraps of local knowledge with equal enthusiasm. I can decide what is useful later. |
| 4 | I ask questions others consider obvious. What is ordinary to them may be entirely new to my clan. |
| 5 | I am slow to offer my trust, but once given, I dislike withdrawing it without good reason. |
| 6 | When I enter a new place, I instinctively note the exits, the defensible ground, and anything that might become dangerous. |
| 7 | I take particular delight in seeing something I have previously known only from another Wayfarer's account. |
| 8 | I have learned that a little courtesy opens paths that a drawn blade never could. |
| d6 | Ideal |
|---|---|
| 1 | Preservation—We learn about the changing world so that the People may endure it. (Neutral) |
| 2 | Discovery—There is more to the world than any clan's stories can contain, and I intend to see as much of it as I can. (Chaotic) |
| 3 | Understanding—Ignorance breeds fear. The more we understand one another, the less reason we have to become enemies. (Good) |
| 4 | Tradition—I walk these unfamiliar paths so that those who come after me may continue walking the old ones. (Lawful) |
| 5 | Independence—The Dalish survived because we learned to depend upon ourselves. Knowledge should make us harder for others to control. (Any) |
| 6 | Vigilance—The world has taken enough from the People already. I will make certain my clan is never caught unaware. (Any) |

|---|---|
| 1 | My clan entrusted me with this journey. Whatever roads I walk, eventually they must lead me home. |
| 2 | I carry the records of Wayfarers who travelled before me. Adding something worthy to them is the measure by which I judge my pilgrimage. |
| 3 | Someone I encountered beyond my clan showed me kindness when they had nothing to gain from doing so. I will not forget it. |
| 4 | There is a place sacred to the People that lies beyond my clan's protection. Whenever my travels bring me near it, I make certain it remains undisturbed. |
| 5 | My Keeper charged me to find the truth behind a troubling rumour. Until I know whether it threatens my clan, my pilgrimage cannot truly be complete. |
| 6 | Someone dear to me wanted to see the world beyond our clan but never had the chance. Part of this journey belongs to them. |
| d6 | Flaw |
|---|---|
| 1 | I sometimes treat people as sources of information rather than people, and don't realise I've offended them until it is too late. |
| 2 | I have difficulty admitting that an outsider may understand something better than I do. |
| 3 | When I discover something unfamiliar, curiosity has an unfortunate habit of overcoming caution. |
| 4 | I keep useful information to myself until I am certain others can be trusted with it—even when sharing it sooner would help. |
| 5 | I have spent so long watching for dangers to my clan that I sometimes see threats where none exist. |
| 6 | Every place I visit reminds me that the wider world is enormous. A part of me fears that when the pilgrimage ends, returning home will feel like a cage. |
