The substance was unlike anything you had encountered before. Its effects were potent, unpredictable, and highly sought after. Unfortunately, your discovery was not something that could simply be presented to the local alchemists' guild or sold openly in the marketplace. Whether because of its dangerous properties, questionable ingredients, or the laws surrounding its creation, your concoction was deemed too dangerous—or too valuable—to be distributed legally.
Rather than abandon your hard work, you turned to the only people willing to deal in such things: smugglers, criminals, underground merchants operating beyond the reach of the law.

Your work has earned you a place among the smugglers, fences, illicit merchants, and other criminals who operate beyond the reach of respectable society. While your name may not be known to every criminal organization, those familiar with the underground trade recognize the signs of your profession and are generally willing to hear you out.
You can usually find a contact willing to help you acquire, sell, or transport goods that cannot be obtained through legitimate means. This may include rare alchemical ingredients, restricted substances, unusual reagents, poisons, contraband, or other goods that would normally be difficult or illegal to purchase openly. Your contacts may also be able to provide information about local black markets, criminal organizations, smugglers, and other individuals involved in illicit trade.
You (and only you) can access criminal venues easier and find it easier to converse with those who mingle in the Criminal underworld.
