You were adopted by a Human family. As such, you struggled to fit in, much like the story of the Ugly Duckling.
Note, Humans and half-humans (tieflings, half-orcs, half-elves, etc.) can not take this background
- Skill Proficiencies: Any one skill
- Equipment: A bright red feather, a gold sequined glove that your adopted mother accidentally packed in your case, a dead pixie inside a clear glass bottle, an ornate broken blade that no mage or smith can mend, an adamantine needle, a petrified chipmunk, a set of common clothing, 20 gp
Feature: Feat
Pick one feat at 1st level, you know it.
Suggested Characteristics
d8
1: You value family immensely,
2: Morbid - people die so young
3: You always brag about your feat.
4: You are particularly tolerant of other species - just because someone is from an evil race does not mean they are evil.
5: You think of yourself as unskilled, no matter how many skills you obtain.
6: You want to find any of your original family you can.
7: You think humans are better than your original species and wish you were one.
8: You love new ideas and want to try everything.

Out of all the 'Adopted by' backgrounds, this one gives you the least amount of things. If you want your character to have been adopted by humans, just choose the profession they had as your background. It would be better and give you actual things for your character to know how to do.
You consider gaining a whole feat to be 'the least'?
Is there any other background that grants a feat of your choice?
but it's only the feat. you get nothing else but 1 skill. Your adopted by Halfings give you skill proficiency and tools and the lucky feat. it's just off balanced. You don't even get a language.
