Ship City and Jumuah are gray and desolate, empty of hope and beauty. You have devoted your time to create wonders of art; may they be stoic poems, hilarious lyrics, garish paintings, factual texts or even intricate machine sculptures. Life as an artist is poor and without benefits. You have often had to live on the bare minimum, but you could always subsist on your craft and the intellectual nourishment of your art. After all, you are an artist.

Hull Painter
Where others see the world in shades of gray, you see it bathed in rich colors. Cerulean blue fountains spreading life in the Gardens, the blood red roof of the Inner Sanctum, the golden amber of the magnetic field of Ship City. You found work as a hull painter, bringing life to the giant husks of the old spacefarers. The work was dangerous and the pay low, but you found satisfaction in bringing color to the emptiness of the Great Dark.

Staircase Poet
You always had a way with words and it was on the steep stairs of the Chasm that you found your calling. It was when you stood on the steps with the wind in your hair and the rush of people around you that you felt alive. You barely made a living but you could come and go as you liked, met friends for life and maybe even made an enemy or two.

Maidy Row Balladeer
Since you were just a brat, you were always humming some tune or another. The moment you got your hands on the neighbor’s cittra, you took to playing it. And Ship City, as bleak as it is, desperately needed people like you. Your songs – soothing ballads, rousing anthems, or lighthearted choruses – helped people get by. They fell in love, dreamed of a brighter future, and, for a moment, forgot that they were living in a city at the end of nowhere.

Alley Theater Actor
You had always been a bit of a rascal. Whether impersonating vendors, constables, or even Guild patrols, it didn’t take long to realize your true gift – acting. Before you knew it, you were a regular in the small alley theaters scattered throughout the Chasm. You started with supporting roles, but soon you found yourself as the lead. Like many in the scene, you became familiar with grass wine and the occasional puff, diving deeper into your roles and seeking inspiration for the next performance.

Occasional Publisher
The pen is mightier than a fusillard – or at least the printing press is. As an adolescent, you shouted at the top of your lungs, hawking the latest gossip pamphlet in the chaotic streets of the Serpentine. Over time, you worked your way up – from typesetter to writer to assistant editor – and learned the delicate balance of being a good publisher: making stories juicy enough to grab attention and avoid backlash, yet newsworthy enough to outshine the competition's rags.

Machine Artisan
Mechanical Row was always your favorite quarter – the sounds of hammers, winding machines and the creaking and crunching of cogs and springs. Building simple automata, lighting contraptions or more usable items as lifting harnesses or mechanical chisels, you shortly expanded your talent and know-how – to the point of getting custom jobs and creating ever more brilliant devices.
