Life on the Rock was tough, but so were you. When life gave you lemons, you made Blight Juice and sold it. You weren’t about to waste away at the bottom of some barrel. Only suckers and orchid eaters stayed where they were put. There was no time to waste – you had to make the most of this harsh life on the Rock. No turn was too sharp, no trick too tricky. You weren’t doing anything wrong, just taking the shortest path to where you needed to go. And what was right and wrong, really?
DUST RUNNER
They call the Blight a curse, but is it really? It made your life more exciting, that’s for sure. Running Dust for the Toads all over the Rock was an easy choice. Get a package. Deliver it to the right hands. Get paid. Easy. The Guilds hate your guts and hunt you all over. But, hey, it’s not your fault their members want to ride the Red Mist, is it? Supply and demand, darling. They’ll never catch you. Navigators, Machinists – doesn’t matter, you’re too clever, they’re too slow. There are always ways to get to where you want to be.
TECH SMUGGLER
There are too many rules in this place. It’s getting ridiculous! The Guild’s quarantine rules for shards is a joke. Danger of rot infestation? Pfft! They’re just scared of the competition. And the stuffy Coriolites guard the Old World tech like they own it. Well, screw all of them! You have as much right to get in on the action as anyone. You’ve been smuggling shards from the mines and Old Horizon tech from the Graveyard for years and nothing has gone wrong yet. Well, nothing major…
GUILD SPY
Empires weren’t built in a day, and neither were Guilds. The power and glory of the Guild were built by people like you – those who were prepared to go the extra mile for the information that kept your Guild one step ahead. It had always been for the greater good; what was good for the Guild was good for Ship City. Most people were too ignorant to understand that. But you never needed their thanks. You were happy to work in the shadows, planting the seeds for a better future.
ALLEY THUG
You were always good with your hands. Your one-two punch was legendary among your friends growing up. You’re not mean, you just know what works: one, two – step away. But, of course, you’re a great brawler if the situation demands it. You’re used to odd jobs: bouncer, enforcer, debt collector, you’re not picky. People call you a tool, but you don’t care. You know they want you when things get ugly and they need someone to step in and deliver a beating.
HULL CUTTER
Your mother taught you how to cut up a ship, and you wielded your tools like a butcher’s knife. You and your fellow cutters zig-zagged through Ship City’s misty harbors, stripping gear from vessels to sell on the black market, occasionally throwing in a bit of breaking and entering. You had an eye for what was valuable, what to leave behind, and where a ship’s weak spots were. You had no scruples about stealing (people should really protect their stuff better), but Guild shuttles always had the best loot.
CON ARTIST
People were far too gullible. It was as if they wanted to be fooled. They wanted to trust you, even when they knew they shouldn’t, and they craved entertainment. Who were you to deny them that? You were an artist, with a range of characters at your disposal, each perfect for a different performance.
