The gods have their own ways of competing with one another. Rather than fighting directly, some choose mortals to act as their champions. These chosen warriors are trained, guided, and sometimes granted special powers by their god. Each champion represents their god in the mortal world, proving their strength against the champions of others. You are one of these warriors, chosen for reasons known only to your god. Whether you fight for loyalty, pride, or your own ambitions, your actions may influence a game far greater than yourself.
- Ability Scores:
Choose Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution. Your training as a god's champion has strengthened your body and prepared you for battle.
- Feat:
Choose one Origin feat that reflects your training, natural talent, or the path that led to you becoming a champion.
- Skill Proficiencies:
You gain proficiency in Athletics and Religion. Athletics reflects your combat training, while Religion represents your knowledge of the gods and their rivalries.
- Tool Proficiencies:
You gain proficiency with one type of artisan's tools of your choice, perhaps used during your training or inherited from your life before becoming a champion.
- Languages:
You learn one language of your choice. It may be a language taught to you by your god's followers or one you learned during your training.
- Equipment:
You begin with a holy symbol or token representing your god, a set of common clothes, a keepsake from your life before becoming a champion, and 100 gp.
You have been chosen and trained by a god to serve as their champion in the mortal world. Your god may occasionally send you guidance through dreams, messengers, or signs. Followers of your god may recognize your position and offer reasonable assistance, while champions of rival gods may see you as a competitor. Your status does not guarantee help, and your god does not necessarily protect you from the consequences of your actions.
Suggested Characteristics
God's champions come from all walks of life. Some are loyal to the god who chose them, while others see their position as a chance to gain fame, power, or freedom. Some enjoy competing against rival champions, while others question why the gods use mortals to settle their disputes. Consider how your character feels about being chosen and whether they see their god as a mentor, a master, or simply someone who gave them an opportunity.
