Tribe Of Talafata'i Image

You are from a nomadic tribe of Eladrin deep in the Underlands, called The Talafata'i. At the end of every season, your tribe circles The Great Lake, settling on a different coast every season. They value their relationship to the land and worship a number of gods, often seasonal in theme with an elemental connection.

These are people of the land, who prefer to hunt and gather rather than farm. They drink, tell stories, play music and dance. and paint upon jewellery, leather, rock and papyrus. They have a distaste for metal and a natural connection to magic, yet possess very little knowledge of its workings. The Talafata'i spend a great deal of their time with nature, that is, the ecosystem of the Underlands. They are very wise people, with keen survival skills, a familiarity with dinosaurs and the many strange and unusual plants to be found in such a prehistoric world.

The tribe is governed by a council of elders, with a family-like structure. Children are born into the tribe, and do not answer directly to their mothers, but are cared for by many. You answer to Grandfather and Grandmother for martial and magical advice respectively.  You worship the light of Matika, a massive crystal held high above the clouds at the top of the Underland's cavern. It's radiant and glows with energy. When a Talafata'i Casts a spell involving sunlight or moonlight, it instead casts the Light of Matika.

When an Eladrin comes of a certain age, they must leave the "Faaletino o Aia Tatau", or the Ritual of Rights. You must leave the tribe for a week, venturing deep into the jungle. On the 7th day, if one returns, they must do so with something that benefits the tribe. Success proves your worth to the elders, but failure means you must, one day, return to the wild before gaining their attention.

Skill Proficiencies:
  • Survival: You know how to spend fantastic periods of time in the wilderness, for you have spent your entire life moving from one jungle to another.
  • Nature:  Your time in nature has served to hone your knowledge of the wild.

Tool Proficiencies:   The Talafata'i are incredibly handy people, knowing how to craft what they need for themselves from what they find in nature. Choose from one of the following:

  • Jeweller's Tools
  • Leatherworker's Tools
  • Painter's Supplies
  • Potter's Tools
  • Weaver's Tools
  • Woodcarver's Tools
  • Water Vehicle Proficiency

Languages: They speak their own Language of Talafata'i, which sounds like an ancient offshoot of Sylvan. They can speak common but often cannot read it.

They know Talafata'i, speak basic Sylvan, and only know Spoken Common.

Equipment: The Talafata'i Do not care to wear metal armour. They wear clothes made from what they gather, anything from large leaves to leis, from beads to leather. The Underlands is a very hot, very humid place, so they are not often found wearing Tunics or commoner's garb. It is common for Talafata'i to wield a flint or jade dagger, and carry a trinket of sentimental value to them, sometimes many!

  • The Talafata'i do not understand the value of gold. You would trade for trinkets, artwork, and practical items rather than carrying coin.

Feature: From the Underlands

You've spent your entire life in the Jungles of the Underland. You are familiar with the ways of its predators and dangerous plant life, and can find a safe spot to rest whenever in the Underlands.
