Variant Superhero: Avoiding the Spotlight

Not all superheroes want the public to know about their exploits. These heroes fight their battles in the dark and away from prying eyes, and they consider it a failure if word of their deeds spreads. They tend to be distrusting of institutions and would rather fight on their own terms than become beholden to any ruler, functionary, patron, or god.

If you wish to operate out of the spotlight, choose the More Myth Than Man feature instead of Your Reputation Precedes You.

Variant Feature: More Myth Than Man

Your existence is merely a rumor to anyone outside of your hometown as a result of your hard work to keep it that way. All residents of medium or larger towns know one true thing and one false thing about you. No one will recognize you by description without you attempting to convince them of the truth and telling them your name. As a result, people who do not know you find you frightening and try to ignore you. You have advantage on deception and stealth checks against such people.

Because you know that what is just and what is legal do not always align, you may not choose a lawful alignment.
