Your home is the stage. There are many stages you have known - from street corners to grand theaters, but upon all of them you have reveled in the delighted shouts and thunderous applause of the crowd. You can amaze and entrance your audience with displays of inexplicable beauty, or reduce them to hushed fear with death defying escapes and illusions of certain carnage. You have seen patrons of all ages reduced to moments of childlike wonder, regardless of their station in life. But always, there is the stage and its call to glory.

You can always find a place to perform, usually in an inn or tavern but possibly with a circus, at a theater, or even in a noble’s court. At such a place, you receive free lodging and food of a modest or comfortable standard (depending on the quality of the establishment), as long as you perform each night. In addition, your performance makes you something of a local figure. When strangers recognize you in a town where you have performed, they typically take a liking to you.
Suggested Characteristics
Above all else, famous stage magicians must control a crowd's attention, so they tend to have personas that are outwardly amicable and humorous or moody and forboding, but always mysterious. Privately they are deeply committed to their art and a career of misdirection may leave them ruthlessly practical. Specializing in deception, they will inevitably have some knowledge of criminal elements, but their experiences and regard for such pursuits widely varies. Depending upon the origin of a stage magician, they may have an affinity for certain types of magic or involve animal or humanoid assistants.

2 | Former Assistant - Your assistant chose a new life apart from the stage and is intimately familiar with the mainstays of your stage act. They are trustworthy, if a little out of practice. |

4 | Pickpocket Accomplice - You were part of a two-person act in your early years. Your skills brought the crowd and your partner cut their pursestrings. Your skill in disguises kept you ahead of the city watch as you lined your pockets with coins. |
5 | Tavern Owner - The owner of the tavern who gave you your big break. You've performed countless times at their establishment and have many fond memories of the time before you began travelling. |
6 | A Hated Rival - Your rival has been unscrupulous in their quest to establish their superiority over your act! You have been the victim of (or committed) numerous acts of sabotage and espionage in your long rivalry. A tragic ending seems all but certain. |
