You come from a large family, with many siblings, more than two parents/guardians, multiple children of your own (adopted or biological), an extensive extended family, and/or come from a family-like community. You may have picked up the trade of your parents/guardians, had to develop some useful social skills, or had opportunities to hone other skills with your family. You may have had a small income stretched across your entire family, or be quite wealthy from hard work or by birth. Perhaps you became an adventurer to escape the duties/reputation of your family, to defend them, to prove yourself, or make them proud.
- Skill Proficiencies: All families are different. Pick a Charisma-based skill and one other skill, based on your family’s inclinations or skills.
- Tool Proficiencies: One of the following: Artisan’s Tools, Disguise Kit, Forgery Kit, Gaming Set, Herbalism Kit, Musical Instrument, Navigator’s Tools, Poisoner’s Kit, Thieves’ Tools.
- Languages: One of your choice.
- Equipment: You may have a trinket that reminds you of your family, a hand-me-down piece of clothing, and/or a scroll of family heritage. Any one of the standard equipment packs: Burglar’s Pack, Dungeoneer’s Pack, Entertainer’s Pack, Explorer’s Pack, Priest’s Pack, Scholar’s Pack.
Feature: Many Relatives
Because of your large family, you are more likely to meet people who know of your family or who are distantly related to you or your community. Specify whether you have a distinctive part of your appearance that is particularly memorable, a famous/infamous family profession, a recognisable surname or clan, or whether you are only known to members of your family. Depending on your relationship with them, you may come across allies in your family members and friends due to your heritage during your travels, who may offer aid, lodgings, or request favours at the GM’s discretion.
Suggested Characteristics
Living as part of a large family may have affected your upbringing: how much attention you received, whether you had to adopt a parental role, dealing with poverty or wealth, the weight of responsibility or expectation, or maintaining social harmony. The life of an adventurer could leave you with empty nest syndrome or make you feel like you’ve finally found home.
