You were once a great being. A wielder of great power, one of great status. You might have been a holy angel, an elemental god, or a dark soul. You might have even been a god.
But no more do you hold this title.
By some means, you were struck down. Perhaps an opponent bested you in a battle, and as such you lost your strength. Or perhaps a challenger to the throne was proved to be more worthy, and you were thrown out as a result. However you may have lost your previous powers, you have been reduced now to only a mere mortal, living on the Material Plane. You might still contain a small shred of your once-great powers, perhaps in the form of a single spell or magical weapon. Work with your DM on what this may be, and how to customize it in a way that fits who you were. Perhaps as a god you wielded a mighty hammer that would smite evil foes, but this hammer has been reduced to nearly nothing but an ordinary piece of metal. Or you were an evil archmage who would turn the living to the undead in the blink of an eye, but your fingers only hold a tiny smidgen of their deep necromantic potential.
- Skill Proficiencies: History and one other of your choice
- Languages: One of your choice
- Equipment: A small trinket (what once was a spellcasting focus), a marking or tattoo, a small piece of jewelry worth 5gp, a set of common clothes, and a pouch containing 10gp.
Though your body is that of a mortal, your history still contains great prospect. As a result, those who you allied with in your time of power still exist and know of your prescense. Depending on your standing with them, they may sometimes be willing to provide mental guidance to you through prayers. You might be able to receive a single piece of advice or direction through communication (usually by prayer) to the god(s) who were among you. This might come in the form of a cryptic answer, a sign in nature, or a riddle. If you had no allies in your time, then you may be able to gain a single answer or bit of foresight through meditation, focused on trying to recall anything that may be left in your mind.
Suggested Characteristics
A fallen one is shaped by his or her previous life. Those who were inclined to be good-natured beings will most likely carry the same mindset, and vice versa. Their personality traits might be something that they didn't have before, but discovered once they were forced into a mortal body. Their bonds and flaws would most likely be related to who they once were and those who were around them.
