The Spellguard of Silverymoon are an order of elite arcane protectors of the city, the personal guard of it's ruler and patron of its illustrious college of magical learning, the Conclave of Silverymoon. But perhaps their greatest task is the oversight of the city's mythal and it's protective wards. The order is open to arcane spellcasters of all sorts; while primarily comprised of wizards, it also includes bladesingers, sorcerers and warlocks among its ranks. In order to gain admittance, aspiring members has to demonstrate a certain prowess in battle-magic by casting a number of spells while in audience with the Spellguard's Lord Warder. The applicant would then be interrogated by the Lord Warder, who is aided by a number of clerics casting divination spells such as detect evil, detect thoughts, discern lies and true seeing to test the applicant and it's loyalty to Silverymoon. Once accepted, the new Spellguard are formally brought into the order in a grand ceremony held within the High Palace and given their adrath token, a small metal badge that allows them to cast certain arcane spells that are otherwise prohibited by Silverymoon's mythal. It allows a Spellguard to cast conjuration, fire and teleportation spells within the city's wards, spells that otherwise can not be cast within the confines of the city because of the mythal.
The most promising arcane students in Silverymoon are offered to be initiated into the Spellguard as initiates. The number of Spellguard members rarely exceed 25 and it is not unusual for a member to being sent on a clandestine mission or even die in the line of duty for the "Gem of the north". In order to safeguard the replenishment of new talent in the Spellguard as well as taking care of lesser tasks every Spellguard must take one initate and it's not unusual for the seven Wardens under the Lord Warderer and the Lord Warderer himself to have several initiates.
Each Spellguard initiate have to be accepted by the mythal of Silverymoon in a special ritual together with his/her mentor. The ritual creates a bond similiar to the bond created between a Spellguard and the mythal. After the ritual the Spellguard initiate recevies a minor adrath token that let's the mentor know excactly where the initiate are within the bounds of the mythal of Silverymoon and acts as a compass to find the initiate outside.
Your duties besides your studies to become a Spellguard consists of assisting your mentor in his/her duties and as well as guarding the Conclave of Silverymoon. When your Spellguard mentor deems that you have progressed far enough in your studies he or she will invoke the rite of passage. This releases the initiate from his/her duties to the mentor and the initiate is encouraged to go on a grand tour of the realms in order to learn how the world works outside of Silverymoon and to develop his/her skills in the arcane arts. Not seldom are the initiate also tasked with something important such as retreving a magic sword stolen from an embassy to Neverwinter, bringing back an enemy of the state or finding a lost tome wanted by the conclave. A grand tour can take decades and the Spellguard mentor often take a new initiate, but the bond through the minor adrath token persists and many are the stories told about a mentor trying to find an old initiate in dire straits. Few inititates return but those that does are most often on the path of becoming member of the Spellguard order if they so chooses.

Spell List
When Silverymoon was established around the mythal the mages, that later would form the Spellguard, found a pride of golden Psuedodragons living around the mythal. The Psuedodragons were at first wary of the newcomers but when the mythal accepted the new settlement an accord was formed. Any member of the Spellguard order could approach a Psuedodragon of the pride and ask for familiarship and a number of Spellguards have since then had a gold Psuedodragon familiar. It is not even unheard of that young initiates have bonded with the playful dragonkind.

Most other issues are secondary at least until they take their grand tour.
