Whether you grew up in the slums and streets of the Grand City of Daes pickpocketing adventurers or traveling merchants, or have been bamboozling gamblers out of their fortunes in the Golden City of Koldath, your knack for deception and sleight of hand eventually drew the attention of the Mad Thieves Guild: a collective of the worlds most successful and ruthless thieves that have an established and highly organized system all over Renn

With the guild having a system that guarantees you would always have intel and resources for your jobs, you agree to be forever bound as a Step of The Ladder: the ranking system of the guild that is both rewarding in higher ranks, but also very cut-throat in the lower ranks.

It ain't easy climbing up the Steps of The Ladder. Will you be ruthless in your climb? Will you work towards rising up by doing big job after big job? No matter what avenue you choose, you are forever bound and only death can sever your ties.

Skill Proficiencies: Deception, plus your choice of one between Sleight of Hand or Stealth.
Tool Proficiencies: Thieves’ Tools, and your choice of either Forgery Kit, or Disguise Kit.
Languages: Thieves’ Cant
Equipment: A set of dark common clothes including a hood, standard Thieve’s Tools, a set of tools to match your choice of tool proficiency, and a belt pouch containing 10g.

Feature: One Steal At A Time

You have information on locations of all guild Secret Shops. These locations are usually manned by one or a few caretakers or guild members. Depending on your rank and status in The Ladder, you have access to intel on potential jobs provided that the location you are in has a Secret Shop or has heavy guild activity. You can also request favors from other Steps. The DM determines how much information you can ascertain from contacts or what kind of favors you can request based on your rank or status and how you compare to them.

3 The first thing I do in a new place is note the locations of everything valuable—or where such things could be hidden.
4 I would rather make a new friend than a new enemy.
5 I am incredibly slow to trust. Those who seem the fairest often have the most to hide.

2 When faced with a choice between money and my friends, I usually choose the money.
3 If there’s a plan, I’ll forget it. If I don’t forget it, I’ll ignore it.
4 I have a “tell” that reveals when I’m lying.
5 I turn tail and run when things look bad.
6 An innocent person is in prison for a crime that I committed. I’m okay with that.

Variant Mad Thieves Guild Member: Emberkin Assassins

As jobs grow ever more complicated and varied, so does the danger that comes with it. Sensing an opportunity for more profit and power for the guild, one of the solutions that was put forward by Suntag Skincancer, one of the Final Steps of the Mad Thieves Guild, was to form the Emberkin Assassins. Reporting directly to Suntag, these individuals are carefully selected from the Ladder in order to receive training and eventual mastery in the art of espionage and assassination. You are one of these carefully selected individuals. You are the dagger from the shadows.

Variant Feature: One Kill At A Time

You report directly to Suntag Skincancer. This means that you can no longer rise up in the ranks of the guild since you report directly to one of the Final Steps. You have access to all the Secret Shops across Renn, with the addition that you gain access to assassination jobs. You are also given the Ember Mark.
