You weren't simply some small time noble; you were from the head family of either one of the most influential noble houses or directly royalty yourself. Who knows why someone such as you would go out adventuring. However either because you stole some on your way out or your family gifted you with money; you have a considerable amount of starting cash.
- Skill Proficiencies: You do not gain any skill proficiencies from this background. You spent all of your time in leisure and at parties. You had no time to have skills.
- Tool Proficiencies: A gaming set or a vehicle.
- Equipment: You start out with fine clothes and a mundane item which you are proficient. You start out with 10d20X100 gold pieces per your starting level of the campaign.
Feature: Old Alliances Die Hard
You still have political power from the near royal to royal blood that you possess. While you are in the realm of influence of your royal to near royal blood you get free housing. Furthermore if you are on good terms with those in power of your bloodline you get a stipend of 300 gold pieces a week as spending money. You have advantage on checks that it would take to call a favor directly from your high noble or royal blood line or those of an ally of your blood line.
Feature: Protective Guardian
When you left you didn't leave alone. You might not have much money but you have a retainer. However unlike the retainer of other classes they are much more capable and can actually fight. They are almost always completely loyal. The retainer can have class levels which start at 5 then don't progress until you are level 10 staying four levels behind yours. If you take this option you have on tenth the starting gold you would initially have. You and your dm can decide more on the nature of the retainer. Maybe the retainer is just someone that gets you items, maybe they are a caretaker, maybe they are a holy warrior sworn to serve you, or whatever your mind can come up with.
Feature: Magical Item Stow Away
When you left you did so under the cover of night and you took something important to the crown. Because of this theft you might even have jeopardized your birthright. Either way you possess a powerful magical item. This was so important that it was all you took and you even perhaps burned some bridges to get it. You start out with no gold but the DM creates a magical item of rarity rare or higher for you to have. You are still either very close to royalty or royalty so the people searching for it won't try to kill you but they want to take the item back. They might try to take you back as well and put you under house arrest till they believe you learned your lesson. If the player has the magic item taken from them they may then try to get one of the other features instead but still lose the starting gold after they repair relations with their family.
Suggested Characteristics
Though they are leagues apart those born in the purple can take their characteristics from the noble background tables.
