I'm Not Crazy, You're Crazy.. Image

Early in your life, you were exposed to an unimaginable horror to which your psyche has never fully recovered.  After a long rest, or a near death experience, there is a chance that your mentality could shift to another entity altogether.  Upon choosing this background, the player rolls a 1d6+1, that is how many different persona(s) they may have.  One of the persona(s) must be a 0-level commoner with all ability scores of 8, with a common skill trait (smith, leather-working, jeweler, farmer, etc.).  Other persona(s) must use existing ability score numbers but placed into different spots, the only exception would be if multiples of the same score(without racial adjustments).  Then the other persona(s) choose a class that complements best with your new scores.

Feature: Shift

After a long rest, the character could shift persona if the rolled percentile dice rolls over the character's shift percentage.  Shift percentage is determined via adding all ability scores together and adding the character level to that number.  For example, using standard array; 15, 14,13,12,10 and 8 all together equals 72 and if the character is level 5 then the total is 77 percent.  So if you rolled 77 or lower you stay the persona that you currently are.  78-99 you shift to a persona of your choosing except commoner.  On a roll of 100 the shift is to commoner.  When character is knocked unconscious(near death), shift occurs.  Also, upon taking devastating damage (more than 1/2 hp in one round) the roll has a disadvantage of how much damage was taken.

Suggested Characteristics

Upon Shifting, the physical characteristics upon the shift is apparent and could be mistaken as a shapechanger or even a lycanthrope.
