A student of the artisanal trade of the locksmith, you have an intricate understanding of the ins and outs of creating, maintaining and breaking locks. You grew up having learned the function of different types of locks, how to identify magical and non-magic locks in various forms, and understand how the denizens of the world practice seclusion.

Skill Proficiencies: Sleight of Hand, Investigation
Tool Proficiencies: Thieves' Tools and Tinker's Tools
Languages: Read, write and speak one standard language (Dwarvish, Elvish, Giant, Gnomish, Goblin, Halfling or Orc)
Equipment: Either thieves' tools or tinker's tools, a pouch containing 15 gold, three locks and a set of common clothes

Feature: Lock Master

You are adept at creating, tinkering with and unlocking locks. Whenever you roll a skill check when interacting with a non-magic lock of any form, roll with advantage. You may also roll a history check to attempt to establish what race or culture a lock comes from, at the discretion of the DM. You can spend 8 hours attempting to lock a container or door using a lock from your inventory, and can create locks for half their value. Your DM may decide that better locks can be crafted at higher material costs.

Suggested Characteristics

The life of a locksmith is a humble trade. Creating and maintaining locks is a very specific role in a society, and the repetitive nature of a locksmiths' work could cause some mental strain. Staying ahead of the curve of thieves and their kin takes a lot of planning, and many locksmiths may take up a secondary profession. Their bonds and flaws may be related to their work, or may come from somewhere else entirely.
