Whether born into servitude to a chain devil, kidnapped by a succubus, or signed away your life to the King of the Nine Hells, you are now or were at some point a servant to a fiend or devil. Your life was or is held in the hands of hellish creatures, and they have marked you as their territory till the end of your mortal days.
- Skill Proficiencies: Choose two from Athletics, Arcana, Religion, and Performance.
- Tool Proficiencies: Choose two from Torturer's Tools, Poisoner's Kit, or a Disguise Kit.
- Languages: Infernal and Abyssal.
- Equipment: A set of common clothes, a trinket from your master, a branding or marking that symbolizes your master, a pouch with 5 gp, and one of the tools that you are proficient in from this background.
Due to your servitude to a fiend, other fiends may regard you as trusted or at least non-threatening to them as long as you do not attack. They are more likely to give you information or create deals with you, as long as you play your part of still being a servant. How the other fiend reacts to you is based on how powerful your master is compared to them.
Non-hostile: any fiend master/ one of similar CR to the fiend you are attempting to converse with
Property: Lower CR master by at least 3 compared to the fiend, you are regarded to as nothing more than property to them and they will treat you with little care
Superior: Higher CR by at least 5 compared to the fiend, they treat you with respect and try not to get on your bad side as to avoid potentially upsetting the your superior fiend master
Suggested Characteristics
A rather large portion of your life has been in service to your master, and it has molded your personality in a number of ways. For one, you can fear your abusive or tyrannical master and feel the need to hide from others who share similar traits, or wish to hide from those who may be attempting to bring you back to your master. On the other hand, you may have been praised and loved by your fiendish lord, living a life of little hardship and feeling like a pampered pet who is now wishing to return back to their master. In any case, your characteristics can vary.
