At times, evil is subtle. No roaring beasts or terrible men come to fell cities, slaughter people and damn those before them. But something far more insidious, something that creeps through the lands like a thief in the night and snuff out all it touches. Pox, Black Death, Catrolina, they have many names but are commonly known only as The Plague. For you, it was the faceless evil that stripped you of everything you knew and cared for, that left you cold and alone. Regardless of what it was it drove you from your home with little more than what you could carry and the memories of a slow death. Now you must only pray that it lingers not upon your soul.

Skill Proficiencies: Your time watching the plague ravage your lands has left you with a greater understanding on where it may have come from and how best to guard against it. You gain proficiency in both Nature and Survival.
Tool Proficiencies: Whatever life you had before is gone, but whatever tools you started it with linger on with you. Choose one of the following to become proficient with, Alchemist's Supplies, Brewer's Supplies, Carpenter's Tools, Cobbler's Tools, Cook's Utensils, Leatherworker's Tools or Woodcarver's Tools
Equipment: When you left you did so with little more than what you could carry, but enough to stave off the eager hand of death. You carry with you any simple weapon, a backpack containing some family heirlooms, a days rations, a torch and a litre of flammable oil.

Feature: A familiar scent

Spending so much time around prenatural death has left you with a sense for it. Whenever you spend a short rest in a location you can tell if any form of disease exists within a mile radius, your DM may ask you to pass an Intelligence (medicine) check to determine the exact form of disease. Furthermore you can recognise the signs of disease on a humanoid within one minute of speaking with them, even if they should be trying to hide it.

Suggested Characteristics

Unlike many heroes, you did not seek out fate, it hunted you down with merciless abandon. Most Plague Survivors are narrowed by their experiences and live in constant fear of seeing another break out. However such experiences do tend to make one appreciate the life they have, so eat drink and be merry. For tomorrow may never come.
